@raymondwalsh7520 Жыл бұрын
@@bryandoley9227 Your correct. British soldiers aren't shooting dead people on the streets of Derry and Belfast anymore. In the case of Bloody Sunday, you would have rightly called them murders but hey, all war is sheer bloody Murder. If the British hadn't come to northern Ireland in 72 there wouldn't have been a war. If the British government had supported a Catholic- Protestant framework of devolved government back in the 70's, we wouldn't have had the sheer murder they had for 40 years in the North. Just be thankful that someone like McGuinness was there to convince the rank and file who really respected him more than Adams. We might still have the killing continuing without him.

Martin McGuinness embodied the utter ambiguity of racial hatred and prejudice. He killed English people, ordered the killing of English people, yet this Irishman supported an English football team and the England cricket team. Work that one out.
@shortallliam3142 Жыл бұрын
Martin McGuinness was born into a country where racist, anti-catholic bigotry was the legalized norm and catholics being burned out of their houses by maurading protestant mobs was a common occurance. He was from Derry, where the British Army shot and killed 14 peaceful marchers in 1972. Where there is oppression there will be resistance, and like it or not, he played a vital role in bringing about a peaceful solution. Thankfully President Clinton and Tony Blair were willing to consider all the facts and work with him, the foundations were laid for what we have now. Had Thatcher and Ronald Reagan been willing to actually take on the "Northern Ireland Question" back in the '80s, this could have happened a lot sooner. But Thatcher turned a blind eye to the rampant anti-catholic, nationalist discrimination because she needed the unionist votes in parliament, and Reagan washed his hands of it altogether...Shame on the pair of them.
