Some people do not have the intellectual curiously and/or capacity for such abstract thinking. Others are too busy fighting the myth of meritocracy for a coveted spot in the shrinking middle class while finding time to watch 'the news' everyday... Others could be doing nothing but working themselves to pay for their dinner and tuition at the same time. Perhaps if one did not ' pick their parents' and/or socioeconomic situation properly, they would be stuck with a virtually unattainable dream of gaining stable employment that may fall somewhere around the poverty line. They literally do not have time nor energy to invest in a healthy life. And finally, well let me put it this way.... if you were the CEO of a multi-million dollar corporation and your whole family is used to a certain standard of living-- you probably would not disregard your significant others' wishes and/or the future of your children to jump into action at the front lines (metaphorically speaking). You likely would not be protesting, hustling, struggling and perhaps even risking life and limb-- for say -- a ten million dollar tax hike! In other words, it is awfully convenient to choose to pretend certain things do not exist, shut up, relax, and enjoy your life of privilege. Perhaps it is but the tendency to preserve oneself that is in human nature that pushes us to keep our lunch money. Try considering why on earth something such as bullying still occurs. Indeed, it is pretty hard to stand up and attempt to fight someone bigger and meaner than you--- when all along in the back of your mind, you know that if any change happens or perhaps before any real change happens, that bully is now going to take your lunch money everyday too.... And that of all your friends.
