Simple trick: don't ride your bike. Just remember to dust it off every now and then.

a little hack I do to dry my drivetrain and other important points on the bike is to use a big pump (the camping bed sort) to blow all the water out before giving a final wipe and lubing. works an absolute treat, especially getting it out the derailleur✌️

Some chains are 0.7 just after 300km. Even new 12s chainrings can be 0.5 from a start. By the way my breakes in both bikes, always sounds like this 🤣 and nobody know why...

You need to get better chain checker then. No chain out there is 0.5% worn from the start.

How about casing tabletops? This can ruin your bike as well? I mean front wheel on landing and rear wheel on the top of table.

Hey Michael! Casing a tabletop is not something you necessarily have to worry about. If you keep your bike running well, your bike will be ok to land short on tabletops. 👍

If I cannot dry it off with a cloth (don’t have a clean one, or it’s already damp and gross and just pushes the water around) . I’ll do the drop and shake. So after washing and rinsing after a ride before load up. Lift it up a little and give a short drop so it bounces to get the excess water off. Bounce the back a bit to drop water out the drive train. Then with a tissue or rag wipe up on the drive train and chain. Lastly on the roof rack to blow dry it as I drive home. If it’s raining well I’ll just have to dry it with a cloth when I’m back but it works well for minimum effort.

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

Only wash your bike if it really needs it. In the dry season, I can get away with using compressed air and knocking the dust off. Over washing just invites water and grime into your bearings and such. No matter how dry you think you got it, those bearings are still getting exposed to moisture. This leads to creaks, rust, and more maintenance.
@johnamiellorzano6772 жыл бұрын
Here in our country, there's only two season. In the dry season I only wash my bike when I drived off a dog shit 😅. I only clean and lube my chain, wipe down suspension seal then spray some silicone lube, and lastly I use compressed air to blow off dust. Before I used to wash my bike every ride because of the dust, but over time my bearings began to rust and and feel shit. Thats how I learned the lesson to only wash the bike when it really needs to be.
@critche952 жыл бұрын
Now how do you wash your bike when you live in a small flat D:

I have an hour, maybe an hour and a half twice a week to ride. If I follow these "tips" I'll ride 10 minutes a week. I love this channel, but where are the realistic videos about how to get a solid ride in and NOT destroy my bike through unintentional neglect while trying to be the sole breadwinner, a father, a husband, and a reasonably decent contributor to society and my church?

It's basically like this: You can either invest the time in maintaining your bike and keeping it in good working order, or you can invest the money in letting somebody else do it for you. But either way, you do want to keep your bike maintained. And the longer you go without maintenance, the more it will cost you in time or money when you are eventually forced to do some repairs.
@Giftig--Daniel-P2 жыл бұрын
@@Durwood71 yeah part of the problem is I genuinely lack the mechanical ability to do it myself, so what takes someone a few minutes might take me two to three times as long. I can take almost any computer problem and fix it, but if it's hands on I'm not so good.
@Durwood712 жыл бұрын
@@Giftig--Daniel-P The only way to get better at maintaining your bike is to start doing it and learn as you go. But trust me, I understand the trade off. Do I want to spend my precious limited free time performing maintenance, or riding? I know which I prefer, but unfortunately, there are really no tricks to getting around the fact that regular maintenance is a necessity that either you, or your local bike shop, will have to do sooner or later (preferably sooner before something gets wrecked and has to be replaced rather than merely cleaned and tuned).
@Giftig--Daniel-P2 жыл бұрын
@@Durwood71 Yeah ultimately when it comes down to it I would much rather pay someone else to take care of my bike. If I could find someone nearby who is willing to do a weekly check over and cleaning they would make pretty good money. I just don't have the time. Or the inclination to learn. Don't get me wrong, the idea of being able to do it all myself is extremely appealing, but for some reason getting from current skill to being able to do it efficiently and well in this regard just is an extremely difficult thing for me, and I'd rather spend that time doing something that is either directly with my family or making my family's life better somehow.
