When he said he paid 100 for that blue cannondale, i cant help bit imagine, if i was the seller i would just give it to Martyn for free in exchange of an autographed photo with him. This man is an absolute legend in this sports, both before and after his 2013 accident

It had to be weird for the seller filling that shipment address "Martyn Ashton ...". Maybe they didn't even realize it. I had an opportunity to sell 404's to one of our country's best IM athlete and I choose personal delivery just to have couple of words with him and photo. :-)
@prestachuck2867

I would definitely have refunded all but the shipping charges after confirming that it was actually him who won the auction. I remember meeting 1970s/80’s BMX legend Harry Leary in the early 2000’s. He said that he wished he could get his hands on one of his signature Diamond Backs. He found one N.O.S. in a bike shop on display, and the shop owner refused to sell it to him. #somepeopleskids

It's hard to pick a favourite presenter because everyone's so different... Neil's cool and collected (can tell he's seen some shit), Doddy's a walking encyclopedia for MTB, Blake's energetic and stupidly likeable and Martyn has achieved legendary status through a combination of mad skills and being a force of inspiration.

Martyn got me into mountain biking. We had no hills where I lived so trials and street seemed like the only way to go at the time. He showed what could be done and me and my friends all tried to emulate his riding. Watched Chainspotting and Tricks and Stunts to death. Copied his bike best we could from pics in MBUK. Went to watch him at NEC bike shows. Met him twice at different shows and he stopped to chat and sign photos. Couldn't believe it when I heard about his accident. Sent money to help with recovery. Cried my eyes out when I watched Back on Track. Love him on GMBN and he's still my number one hero of the sport.

I've been following Martyn for over a decade now and got shocked when I learned about the accident back then. After that I just realized how brave and a strong man Martyn is. The way he carried on and kept a good attitude despite the obstacles even after being a world class athlete is beyond amazing. He's not just a world MTB champion but most important a champion in life, a role model. I'm sure he doesn't like to hear all this. He lives by setting an example to all of us that there's more in life than what we think. Hats off to you sir.

Awesome Martyn, true legend and you're story is just pure inspiration. I had an pretty bad bike crash last year (nothing near what you have gone through) it kept me 6 months on bed and it has been a long way back to riding, broke my collar bone and my hip, still have no sensitivity on my foot from the calf down because a nerve injury. It's been hard, hearing your story makes me feel so stupid to be sometimes complaining. Thanks for sharing your story and for being such a positive person. I'm just a Peruvian that really admires you. Keep hosting cause many of us will keep watching.

I just watched this, a year after it came out, and can’t help but imagine how e-bikes could progress into something useable for disabled riders like Martyn! They’re progressing so quickly, it’s a shame it hasn’t already happened, but a full electric bike with a throttle would mean it wouldn’t have to be all down hill. Martyn’s a legend for getting back in the saddle after such a bad injury, hopefully the industry can progress to help pay him back for his dedication to the sport

Martyn! It’s all coming back to me. I moved from Canada to Madrid in the late 90s. Hockey was my sport and I was so bored doing goofy tricks on roller blades around a fountain. I walked past a bike shop every day on my way to the studio. Saw a Kona in the window one day and thought that might be fun. I loved it but the epiphany came the first time I crashed. I sat on the ground and laughed. Nobody told me mountain biking was a contact sport!! Mountain Biking UK was the only English language magazine I could get in Madrid. I studied all your tutorials and learned to do drops. I remember Doddy teaching me step by step how to do a bunny hop. I’m 64 now and still shredding(ish) on a Cube Stelio in Saskatchewan. Thanks to all you guys for putting out a great product then and now. Still shitty but still learning. Always use your health insurance as a bike accessory)))))

Afterwards, I told my Son it was you. He couldn’t believe it. Have been binge watching GMBN this year and had a WTF moment when there was a 'brief' scene with Martyn in a wheelchair..... At that point I had already watched a lot of content with absolutely no idea about his situation!! Had to Google my way to the chunk of the matter and since caught up.... WHAT AN INCREDIBLY INSPIRATIONAL MAN YOU ARE MARTYN!!! Have done a lot of sailing with a quadriplegic yacht owner and had some of the most memorable adventures with him.... pushing through walls of adversity!! I myself was born with a disability (Dyserythropoietic Anaemia) and have learned a lot about about what the HUMAN SPIRIT can be capable of!! Yet still to this day am amazed by what can be achieved both individually, and with the help/company of good people around you. 🙏

In 1996 at 16yo I bought my first proper mtb, cannondale M300 because of Mr Ashton. Saved up every single penny. I remember meeting him in the 90s at BTCC at Croft circuit and getting his signature. Martyn, you are an absolute inspiration, most people would give up. You inspire me though my own incident, two years ago I got wiped off my motorbike and ended up a mess, nothing as bad as you, but they did say I might not walk again because of a pelvis break, but I also lost the use of my right arm, however the amazing NHS managed to fix the nerves that were broken. Everyday I workout for 2 hours and I now have some movement back, in fact enough that I can ride a bike. Just over two weeks ago I bought myself an ex-demo bike and am now riding the local trails each day (keeping time distancing laws) I feel alive again. It is not just the inspiration you show, but also the passion for the sport. Keep it up 👍

Martyn, I last heard of you around 2000/01 when I used to buy the bike mags, the two Marty(i)n's antics adding the fun factor and the likes of Steve Peat were the riders to aspire to, trailblazers for an industry inspiring wannabe riders to get kitted out and ride. I've only recently learned about your accident and all that's happened since, loved all the GMBN stuff, the job you're doing now is so inspirational, my love for cycling was waning a bit but after watching your nutty antics I've remembered what its all about - fun! Keep up the great work, we all need inspiring every now and again :)

This has to be my favourite Meet The Presenter! I love seeing you so stoked about riding, Martyn and I love seeing videos from your old trials days. Best video to watch in lockdown - but should have been longer, mate. :D Stay awesome.

Mr Ashton, you were my hero as a teenager and you will always be a legend! You influenced me with my riding so much as a kid to the point I always bought the trick bits you had on your Cannondale. I still have Dirt, Dirty Tricks and Chainspotting on VHS. I've even still got the original chainspotting poster from the bike show signed by every rider!

Jonny Jones video being used! Jonny if you read this, give me a shout. If you don't remember me, I'm dj's best mate, and used to ride and film with him and Sam Wheeler. Drop me a message buddy. As for this video, the two marty/ins were a huge inspiration for me and my friends, and I would go to watch them both at any opportunity. Absolute legend, thank you for a lifetime of memories!

Got to see the 2 Martyns at the World Champs in Plymouth in 98.. they put on an amazing show! The back on track video had me in tears, brilliant video and so inspirational. You also met my mate who was hit by a truck who was in the same ward as you after your accident, it properly cheered him up

Mr. Martyn. i never seen your riding before seeing you on GMBN, but i have since learning of you. your skill is incredible. i am very sorry that you had the accident. and reminds me of what happened to me. i was 15, fell 40ft. landed the same way you described in this video, folded over kissing my chest. i was lucky enough to walk away, though 28yrs later i still deal with back issues. Keep killin it bud!! #GMBNRULES

How can you be that fearless? I don't think I hold back much on a bike, but I don't have one tenth of your courage. I have always loved watching your videos, but they seriously creep me out in places. Amazing riding skills, then and now!
