This is why I love my Trek Fuel EX, 150/140 with flip chips and it performs admirably as a trail bike and as an XC bike for me.
@augmented2nd66612 күн бұрын
Very cool bikes, but I didnt like the steeper headtube angle even with the flip chip, and I like hitting jumps and drops where I am (Vancouver Island, BC, Canada) so I wanted a little more suspension. I opted for the slightly more travel Slash Gen 5 2023 model which is pre Idler and not as slack as the Gen 6 models, Great intbetween for me, as 160 rear travel is more than enough for most of Whistler and Squamish if I ever get over there (I still havent ridden Mt. Washington yet on the island here, or Jordie Lunn bike park, gotta hit those first). But I would totally consider it a light enduro still, and I guess it is classified as one. I find it climbs like my Hardtail too, and that without even flipping the suspension lockout thingies, I find the bit of bounce actually helps sometimes climbing techy roots. I kept my Hardtail though, for now, Devinci Kobain, as we do get sub 0 Celsius temps here and I rode in them last year. I've read that Air suspension doesnt like sub 0C temps and that pivots and whatnot really dont like the extra mud and whatnot in general, even though I wash my bikes after every ride. Its kinda nice keeping a more basic bike for the rough weather though, my Devinci isnt even tubeless, and I dont see a reason to convert it if its mostly being ridden in bad weather season and then possibly sitting alot of the year waiting for occasional rides or when a bikeless friend wants to go for a ride, as I have trails across the street from me.
@ChrisBHaven13 күн бұрын
I recently purchased a Hugene with 140/140. It is hands down the best bike I've ridden. There's mostly fast singletrack XC trails here, but serious mountain trails a day trip away. I use fast rolling tires here, and the bike is a rocket that carries speed and momentum better than XC bikes I've owned. I swap to the stock beefy tires when heading inland, and it eats everything with confidence. A light trail bike with good geo and two sets of tires is the cat's pajamas.
@jacksonarenburg52013 күн бұрын
Haha I agree since I own a Norco fluid but the thing comes stock with somewhat beefy tires from factory and I do everything from XC to gnarly tech DH bike park laps with a little bit of local enduro and DH racing and it takes it so well and zero harsh bottom outs after one season of riding

For me my 150/160 mm Spectral is a perfect "do it all" bike. It has aggressive enough geometry and enough travel for enduro trails and yet it's still good enough on climbs and doesn't tire me on a all day rides. Perfect bridge between a hardcore enduro rigs and a low travel trail bike.

@HananahBanana13 күн бұрын
@@joshuaallswang8016 agreed. As much as I love hardtails, but even with 150 and 160mm travel, it still bucked and I couldn't go as fast as I wanted. Don't get me wrong, hardtails are perfect to learn on, and if you want to make things more fun (like me, lol). But they cannot compete with a full suspension, hands down. YES! For me, a trail bike is the ultimate all-around fun bike. I like trail riding. I don't do road riding at all, but I occasionally do what I call "urban curbin'" to practice my balance and have fun when I can't be on a trail. I have a Vitus Mythic 29 VRX.

@@gmbn I don't have to pack up my bike to go to a trail, I just take it out of the basement and ride around my backyard practicing wheelies and manuals, etc., Neighborhood streets, or the local park. Plenty of curbs (small drop-offs) and even telephone poles are laid down as parking bumpers to ride on or pop over. And railroad tracks, can't forget those.

Bought my fiancé and I a couple of trail bikes recently, and they are perfect for what we want to do and more. Commencal META TR, 29", 150/160mm travel. Personally from my experience, anything less than 150mm sucks for the downhill and the techy stuff. 😅 I still found most of the trail bikes with 150mm and 160mm pretty easy to climb with and more than capable of long distance riding, that I've tried out in the past. Anyhow, each to their own, everyone's preferences is different. 😊

I have an SB150 (my only bike) to make sure I have the travel for the trails I really love that are a couple hours drive away. When I'm closer to home I also ride mellower local trails with it, and use the firm shock settings to train with it on asphalt and ride gravel with my dad. I certainly think about having another bike in the 115-140 range to do things that are more local to me, but if I can only have one bike the 150 makes sure that I can get to the mountains and have fun safely. I'm not trying to go fast on gravel rides anyway and the yeti goes uphill great with or without the shocks on firm so I'm really not sacrificing too much to be able to have extra travel and comfort.

But my AM bike Kona Process 153 is a bit slower uphil but much more safe and fun for downhill and for bigger hits and jumps and it is still cornering like a champ. I also have enduro monster Kenevo SL 170/170 but it is very small difference between Kona and Kenevo, both bikes are safe and very stable with very nice suspension. Stumpy is a bit nervous in big rocks jumps and drops and too long chainstais is bad in short corners.

Love my Merida 140 from '21 - it was the last of their 27.5 models before the new design 29ers. 140R/150F and it's solid as a rock. Not as slack HTA as the bike in the video means climbing is a bit easier and the 27.5 wheels make it very nimble. A rider much better than me could take it off serious drops and I reckon it would only fail on the top 10% of steep trails. Put the right tyres on and it would be Ok for XC rides as well. I do have an XC bike though for longer and faster rides with more climbing.

Unless you are a lift up, bombing downhill in bike park rider, then a modern XC bike will cover almost everything you need. They are plenty capable downhill which is the shortest time on a ride. The lighter more aggressive positioning will get you further faster on the flats and especially uphill. Most of all rides is up and along, so why buy a bike for the shortest section of riding time?.

1) its an ad for a propain bike, let's not bury that too much 2) this trail bike is equipped like an enduro bike, not far off actual enduro bikes imo. its a "slightly more pedaly" version of your enduro bike. the stiffness of the frame and its geo matter more than 1-2cm of travel (specially on progressive trail bikes vs not-so-progressive enduro bikes) 3) while there can be a slighly better bike for every mountain, rider, and riding style, I think that, proper "downcountry" is where its at (e.g. transition spur, not, specialized epic evo - i.e. it really needs the aggressive geo). light enough to not rly need a motor, yet fun and capable, just not as "smash" or "hammery" as an enduro or your "trailduro" promoted bike 4) in europe, spain is awesome - just enough mountains, just enough grade that its great to ride new places all the time (compared to the really steep alps, or smaller british mountains for example)

@@Dukhanstmichmal this is like saying the stumpjumper is an old bike though. the goal is to showcase sponsors bikes

@@kangsterizer Isnt that the purpose of the Channel? Like no matter the video topic they are always going to use some sponsored bike. And he didnt massively praise the Hugene in specific... He was just using IT AS an example of a trail bike.

@@Dukhanstmichmal like i said, lets not bury that too much - of course, they're sponsored, thats fine. but, imagine being in their shoes: you have to poop out a new video every X days, featuring specific sponsors - this leads to this type of video, and thats why you have this type of bike. Do you know which type of bike Propain doesnt have in their line up? Exactly - that's why. The hugene is the lightest mtb they have, but they do not have the newer, aggressive geo-yet-actually-light trail bikes (like the spur, and a few others). What's interesting is that just 5-7 years ago, trail bikes were in fact great for this type of riding . current "trail bikes" are yesterday's enduro bikes (eg hugene!), and a "new" xc++ came up, which are basically the "better trail bikes" and honestly a lot more fun for such long day , non-ebike climbs. But again.. propain does not yet have this in their line up, so they can't feature one.

Yes a trail bike is all you need but you also only need one pair of shoes technically

Hardtail trailbike even better on the climbs

bike parks are fun but if im honest: 90 percent trails for me. if my trail bike is not enough i can easily borrow an enduro or even dh bike at any park.

I think 160/150 should be a All mountain bike.

I own a Hugene and even though it is not my only bike (also have a gravel bike and a bigger E-Enduro), it would be the last bike I would get rid of. It can and will do anything including bikepark but it will also allow me to do long pedal-epics where my E-Bike would run out of juice after half a day.
@gmbn12 күн бұрын
That's a good combination of bikes! So the gravel bike would be first to go? 😉

exactly.

@@Shane_has_a_muddy_bike-rx2dv Mine is around 14kg in XL with alloy enduro wheels and beefy enduro tires. If you go for carbon wheels and trail/XC tires I would guess you can easily get below 13kg, maybe even below 12, especially on the smaller frames.
