Very irresponsible (and in most European countries, including Switzerland, also illegal) to use hiking paths for MTB driving. Behind some of those corners there could've been a hiker going up and you wouldn't have a chance to see him first or react appropriately. Getting nice pictures is well and all but you should certainly stick to designated MTB routes there.

He's freaking out over the totally safe tunnel with a cool river running through it, but then gets up and rides along a cliff with instant painful death on one side, and trip hazards on the other. The duality of man. Also, at 12:08, if you can't get a bike through it without needing to physically adjust your bike, it is no longer a bike trail. You may have managed to get a bike through it, and people may decided its part of their bike trail, but it is absolutely clear it was not designed to be a bike trail, so the statement 'this is a bike trail' doesn't make a ton of sense. If I need to disassemble the bike, and carry it across a river is it still a bike trail? No, its a trail that I have found a way to ride a bike on.

Coming back to this a few times, and I think the most impressive thing about this video is just how much information your brain is processing doing something like this. Visual information has to be processed, recognizing things on and off the trail. Rapid decisions based on that. Balance information from your ears. Tactile information from your hands and feet about the terrain and bike itself. Deciding when to stiffen or relax muscles to handle bumps. Then all of the additional senses sending info. The sheer amount of information hitting you non-stop at high speed that has to be sorted, prioritized, decisions made and reactions sent out to the body... that's truly insane.

@@DeadlyDan Oh, absolutely, much about the process of riding is offloaded to the brainstem and never even reaches the brain. But this is a trail they have never ridden before, so there's still an awful lot that is going to need processing. They may know how to avoid a rock, but they don't know where they are on this trail, nor are they aware ahead of time how wide, steep, other obstacles, etc. So that's all going to have to come from real time processing. And that need will cause a much higher release of adrenaline to aid in that with its seeming time dilation effects on awareness. Which is likely why expert riders seek out new trails... to get that higher "rush" feeling again. After the 4th or 5th time down, they've got the trail down and most of it is offloaded to the brainstem again.

I don't mountain bike, but I do hike peaks, and there is something magical about the high alpine environment. The air is cool and crisp and feels electric. And the colors... greens and blues that all feel deeper and richer. This trail was intense. Even from a hiking stand point, but biking it... dang. Brave. there had to be some pretty intense "oh crap" moments when turns or things come up on you out of nowhere. Those nice long stretches where you could really let go and just pick up some nice speed... amazing.

@stevemullen634 Жыл бұрын
@@alphaniner3770 In Switzerland, France and Italy trails with these markings are generaly shared between hikers and bikers as long as the bikers prioritise the hikers. In Austria and Germany rules have gone more strict because of repeated conflicts between hikers and bikers. It is a fine equilibrium and shooting down the trails at speed on your back wheel, skidding through tight corners with blocked rear wheel and cutting corners through fields will not help this situation. Cool in a bike park but not on the trail. It will cause the community to close the trail for bikers and that will stay forever.
@alphaniner3770 Жыл бұрын
@@stevemullen634these trails are often very old, and bikers can be seen as recent guests. It's indeed up to how responsible the bikers behave. Videos like this show the reckless side - not sure if they took any safety precautions regarding hikers. Hey guys, what you were doing there is absolutely incredible and crazy!!! I would never do such a trail myself but have great respect of your courage. Any mistake can be your last one. Great camera and impressing point of view! Stay alive ✌️

"Any mistake can be your last one" exactly my sentiment its the kind of thing special forces would do as part of a confidence test.

I usually walk these tracks by foot. You are crazy for doing them on bike. Mad respect for having the skills and confidence to actually do it.

What skills…you mean stupidness
@benrex7775 Жыл бұрын
@@notknown42 People who do that kind of stuff have a lot of training until they do such things. Yes, it is risky, but it is not that bad if you actually have the skills and are careful.

Until someone dies for riding a bike on a footpath
@benrex7775 Жыл бұрын
@@psychologicalFudge Of course if they are not capable of driving those paths they shouldn't do that. To me it seems like they are capable of judging the risk of their action. At least I can judge the risk of where I can hike and where I can't. So they probably can do the same.
@psychologicalFudge Жыл бұрын
@benrex7775 I mean, they are the ones doing it not me, so it's their lives at stake. However, even a simple hiccup and boom, there goes their balance. I'm assuming they scouted ahead an knew nobody was hiking, but some of the stuff they did was them just toying with death
@peterfuchs7914 Жыл бұрын
nice, adventurous ride but would be fine if you guys respect the environment a bit more, as you where saying it is not a bike park, there will no-one reshape the track, blocking wheels in corners, shortcutting the way over the gras just ruins it - forever, especially in an high alpine region. have fun - stay save.

Also, I am not sure whether bikes are allowed on these waterways ("bisses"), especially on narrow ones like Bisse d’Ayent, Niwärch, Gorperi, Wyssa… I hiked the Bisse d’Ayent once and such an encounter with crazy bikers would not have been a pleasant experience, to say the least. 😡 Elsewhere, I don’t mind.

In general I do not want to be the one complaining as I do creazy things myself (climbing, hiking), but this does not look like a bike route. Like whatever, but mixing hikers and bikers on one route is not the best idea. And you can always find adrenaline on a prepared track with exposition, while not fighting with the route as much... If this is indeed a bike route, the preparation is slightly off I guess :P

As they were saying? No, they literally said it WAS a "bike trail".

Biking at the wall with a 500m drop on the left: This is proper mountain biking. Climbing through a relatively safe, if tight tunnel: "This is mad, have you ever done anything like this?"
