Back in the nineties, almost all mountain bikes had long stems and narrow handlebars! We already made the narrowest handlebar video, so now it's time for the longest stem! Thanks to our friends at ‪@gcn‬ we have borrowed some different length road bike stems, but just how far can Blake go? 🤔

That’s a true mullet. Mullets are larger/longer in the rear so a “mullet” would have a 29 rear and a 27.5 front. What people call a “mullet” should really be called an “emo”. Emo has larger/longer in the front, so the larger wheel on the front is an “Emo”. At least that’s my take; I’m trying to popularize the term. 😁

# 29 ! My first full sus bike was 29er Mega Something just kept nagging me and in the end a 50mm stem made all go away , ever since I've been doubting myself, thanks Blake !

Long stems and flat narrow bars, just like things were 20 years ago. I was there and in hindsight, it was so horrible but everyone was doing it.

I like my 40mm stem with 20mm rise on the bars. I have tried both 30 and 20mm rise bars and 35, 40 and 50mm stem and the combination i'm on currently on my bike feels amazing for me

My bike came speced with a 100mm stem and 620mm bar. I've since swapped to a 60mm stem and 720mm bar and I love it.

Throw on a straight stem riser 7 inches tall and try that ! They sell them all over Amazon. I threw one on my bike to get more heads up and I ride a hard tail because I am a large frame guy over 6 feet tall. It is so easy to get the front wheel up going downhill.

Im an adaptive rider and this video gives a good idea of what it's like with the long stems. Right now i have bmx bars on with the stem flipped around. That last stem could be a nice alternative option.

ok, stem length matters as much as rise or sweep or length it is there to make sure that your arms are always just shy locking out, like your cranks. length also affects the " reach " and can position you over difference points of your steering tube for proper stance. if u believe that length of the bars matter, or the length of your cranks matter or the geometry of your headtube matters then you also have to believe that stem length matters im using a 35mm riser with a 70mm stem it puts my center of balance just over the front of the headtube and the rise keeps my arms just short of locking naturally so when i need to bunny hop my arms push "out" and not "down"

have you seen that 'riser' stem that has hydraulics in it like a riser seat post? It's so you can go from regular stubby stem to negative rise long stem at a push of a button to allow you to climb better once you're at the bottom of your run. Looks a bit like the Mercedes F1 DAS system. That may be fun to test

I run a 70mm stem on my medium Trek Fuel. I'm 5'9 tall, with LONG ARMS, 6'1 wingspan. Going longer made the whole bike work for me.
