All sports need their iconic staple venues, F1 has silverstone and monza, MTB needs Fort William. If the UCI think the tracks a bit tired, get Dan Atherton to spruce it up. If they take away Fort Bill, we need to ensure we still have a WC round in the UK, how about Dan again, knocking up something in Wales, he's bloody good at that....

Went to Fort William for the first time last year. It's such an awesome event!! From the crowds, the riders and teams, the course itself, to seeing children as young as 8 tear around smaller parts of the trail! So much happens over the weekend, there's so many memories to get. The after party is unreal! Never want this place to disappear. 😭

Ft. William I have to say is crucial to the sport. As was said many UK folks are exposed to the sport at this event. (I'm American) I think it has historical value especially to those who have been a part of the sport for a while. And last and maybe least I would assume it would be a financial mistake.

Robbie Surfer it's to do with the forestry commission and stuff I would imagine they are really tight on that kind of stuff. They seem to hate making mountain biking and motor sports easy for people to get into/ do seriously in the UK. Unless your loaded.

Ouch. The ONLY reply that is worth mentioning is from David Vazques UCI TD and his reply is NOT GOOD. Nice obfuscation. Alas it does not look good for this GREAT venue, but I did like Mike Jardine's response. SOMETHING is surely up in the UCI Halls of Power...and Mr. Vazques response shows this perfectly. . . Personally I think Fort William is a "Classic" similar to the FIS World Cup Downhill's in Kitzbühel and Wengen, where they have been racing for over 50 YEARS. After the introduction of a 'slalom' course in Croatia, and now this rumour, I wonder WTF the UCI is smoking. I LOVE this track, and it would be a shame to loose it. . . As to it being "bike parky" I'm not sure what that even means...doesn't anybody remember last years race. This is the venue where one of the best females in history crashed!!! Hardly a "Bike Park"!!!! What the UCI SHOULD concentrate on is bringing us fans a MAY RACE! $$$$$$ is what it is ALL about...maybe the UCI isn't making enough at this venue. Just a crazy thought. I have seen this kind of 'stuff' in another sport...FIS World Cup ski racing. The only thing that truly matters in International Competition is TV and MONEY...all the rest be damned. Including the racers. Sorry to say but UCI is beginning to look like the FIS, FIFA, Olympics. Now hopefully Fort William will not get the Wx it had last year.

You need to have legends to create a legacy and history. People, places, and races. They need to expand the season and venues not contract them. Or else it becomes disposable entertainment and if there is a lul in interest one year Down hill racing could disappear. It's not in the Olympics, There are no national teems it's still in a building process and cant afford to ignore and forget about the beginnings of the sport or any of the great races, legendary places or people who have made it the most spectacular sporting event of all time!
