This is exactly why I love my hardtail. It's reliable and steady, and I truly feel that the only consistent limiting factor is my skill. I've been learning jumps as I have a background in tight techy trails, and the weight transfer skills I've picked up have translated to all parts of my riding. Riding a modern hard tail with modern geo and upgrades will transport the rider back to their youth, with all the modern comforts of the sport. Another point is that they're a great winter riding alternative to a full suspension. Less pivots and bearings to go bad, they're just reliable bikes. Also opens up riders to XC racing among other styles of racing and riding. Having a second bike is a good idea for any rider that can afford it, good to have an extra bike on hand in case something were to happen to the full suspension. I've found solace in my Yeti SB6 enduro bike (160mm front and rear) and my Scott Scale custom build (29" wheels with a 130mm pike fork and 1x drivetrain). All good points on the video! Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

Put a strong, thick tire in the rear. I run a 29erX2.6" EXO in the rear with relatively low pressure. That gives me about an inch of rear suspension. Too much pressure and it feels too bouncy. Warning, I do a lot of rock riding but no jumps. Also I run a few volume spaces up front so that I can lower the psi. This allows me to run less pressure on front as well because the fork absorbs a lot of the sharp hits. After all, it's the only suspension you got. Also, if you are buying stuff to save weight, start with making the front wheel lighter and leave the rear for last. That front wheel is the only unsprung weight that you can work with. Finally, I run a 4-p brake in the rear with a 203 rotor. It's a lot easier to lock the rear on a HT because it bounces around, so having a really progressive yet powerful brake is a plus to avoid locks. PS, I run a heavily modified 2021 Giant Fathom. Just like Blake said, bought it within a budget, but kept adding stuff.

That insanely short braking at the end was damn impressive... Geez from full on to nothing in like 3 meters...

X caliber 5 still going strong, bike a bit to big for me since its an ML and im only 172cm, i changed the stem to 40mm and its much more comfortable now. Getting a high rise bar aswell to make it better going downhill since its an XC oriented bike and im doing mostly enduro tracks ! (walking a few bits) ahah
