@@Back-Yard-Builds I do want to try on one day but there a little weaker especially if I'm planning on on a super charger and my Yukon is a xl and I don't like the bell housings on the 3500 the 4500 is ment to be hooked up to a 4.10 rear diff the Yukon i have has 3.73 it's not ment to go so fast in 4th it could do 120mph + 😉

@ honestly I think that might be better with the 3.73 and NV 4500. With my 6.0 NB 4504.10 gears I was at 2500 RPM doing 70. Also might make first gear a little more usable for around town but that’s just my opinion based on my build.

You can hide a switch wired to the park/neutral switch and use it as anti theft device (i mean manual itself nowadays its already a very nice antitheft) but it would be nice have an extra layer of security

Nice job doing the conversion! What if you have an 4x4? I have a manual transfer case from a 2500, so what do I need to adapt to the NV4500? Thanks.
@Back-Yard-BuildsАй бұрын
If your transmission is already from a 4x4 then you’re ready to go. The T case will bolt right up. At the end of the video you will see I showed a Yukon I swapped. That was a NV3500 with a manual shift transfercase. Having a full donor truck is the easiest way to do the swap.
@Nickie-r8yАй бұрын
Super awesome swap - very inspiring! However, I'm having trouble understanding how this works properly without any ecu tunning. Seems like this works because the ecu thinks the auto trans is still there but always in neutral, but however again - seems like the engine rpms and other parameters would also be limited because the ecu thinks the auto trans is in neutral. I honestly don't know, but I'm here because I'm seriously interested in doing this swap. Please let us know more about your thoughts on this issue since you've actually done the swap more than once. Thank you so much in advance!

Great question. I just used the ECM from the manual truck and did the security relearn procedure to clear the VATS. Everything else was plug-in play. You will need to take the rear speed sensor from the automatic transmission and put it in the NV4500 if it is a 2 Wheel Dr. If it is a four-wheel-drive, then the speed sensor is already in the transfer case so nothing changed there. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out.

@Back-Yard-Builds25 күн бұрын
If you take off the neutral safety switch from the automatic and keep it connected in the park/neutral setting it will start right up. I prefer using the manual trucks ECM if you have access to one. Just plug it in and do the Vats relearn procedure and you’re good to go. Last option is having someone with HP tuners change the settings for you.

Can you do another video explaining how to do it on a 4wd as you did on the Tahoe? I have a 99 Silverado 5.3 4wd and I want to do this with the nv4500, transfer case is one of the things that worry me about, what transfer case should I use? Now I believe 5.3 never came with manual so I’m also planing on getting a 6.0 and use the ECM from the 6.0 so I can just use HP Tuners and switch to manual, I’ll really appreciate if you reply to my message thanks!
@Back-Yard-Builds16 күн бұрын
You can use the 5.3 that you have if you want. Any of the LS motors work the same with this swap. I used the manual np261 that came with my NV but I believe you can use the push button transfer case if that’s what you have. Just need to confirm the number of splines and size of the output shaft.

What about 4x4? Do they make an adapter kit or any transmission that will mate up to the transfer case?
@Back-Yard-Builds4 ай бұрын
You just need to find a 4x4 NV4500 and it connects to the factory transfer case. Or you can swap the tail housing and output shaft but that’s a little more involved. Finding a 4x4 nv4500 is your best bet.
@Red-b1r8iАй бұрын
@Back-Yard-Builds Do you mean factory as in a NP261 or NP263? They came with both and I don't know if they bolt up the same. I want to do this or maybe the 5 speed Allison auto that came in the 8.1 and 6.6. I'm am wanting to build a minimum 600hp 408. And I would like more than the 4l80e. And what truck would you pull this transmission out of?
@Back-Yard-BuildsАй бұрын
@ I used a NP261 on the 4x4 swap I did. The second swap was a 2wd truck. 5 speed Allison would be pretty cool as well! Transmission came out of the same year truck. Anything 99-06 will work. You can also use 95-2000 obs nv4500.
@Red-b1r8iАй бұрын

@@gnashuasavage8887 I’m not quite sure. I would think it would fit. Just confirm the input shaft size and number of teeth. I’m sure you can find that info on the forms. Best of luck that build sounds pretty cool!

@@jorgeortega6430 sadly I don’t have the truck anymore. Another easy way to do it is take a fused key on wire to one side of the reverse switch in the nv4500. Just used a test light and looked at a wiring diagram on DIY Aldata.

What kind of tuner did you use to make it work? I was told you need some sort of handheld tuner or something similar to an HP tuners or Holley terminator x system

I've been having a hard time deciding whether to go 4l80e or nv4500 when my 04 tahoe z71s 4l60e dies. I recently swapped in an L33 (5.3 H.O.) and plan on doing some power mods after getting a trans that can handle the power. I've always wanted a manual, my friend only owns them and I've driven standard a few times. I would like to move over to an always on AWD transfercase like the np149. What are your thoughts and experiences previously swapping into a tahoe? For the shifter is there a way to put in a short throw stick like I've seen online some places in the NV4500?
@Back-Yard-Builds2 ай бұрын
Nice both are great options! One downside to the nv4500 is a granny gear. You really only have 2nd-5th for daily driving. I would recommend 3.42 or 3.73 gears at the most. I had 4.10s in mine with 33s tires and 1st was almost unusable. You can get a short shifter for the nv4500 and I would have probably done that if I kept the truck. Best of luck you can’t really go wrong either way. Big improvement over the 4l60e.
@3DKreateFPV2 ай бұрын
@Back-Yard-Builds all the z71s came with 3.73s so that's taken care of. From what I can tell the biggest thing is swapping the input shaft on the np149 to the 32 sline on 4l80e and np4500. Thanks for the input can't wait to follow your stuff.
