I keep coming back to this video. I find it amazing how easy it is to hear your softspoken voice, even when your wife is holding the camera. GM has done a wonderful job with their noise cancelling technology. As an older guy with bad hearing, I hate competing noises. If I wasn't towing at 11,000 feet, I would absolutely buy this package. You may have convinced me to buy it anyway. "My mind is blown".

I have a very similar setup... 2015 gmc 1500 6.2 SLT, so 1900 lbs payload. I tow a 7200 (dry) fifth wheel, when loaded likely around 8500. Hitch weight was 1280 lbs when dry, maybe 1350 when loaded up. Truck handles amazingly well. I had pads nearing their end, and had to bring the brake controller up to 6.5. After I got new pads, I dropped it to 5 and may drop it down even more. Makes a huge difference... Good setup!

I just purchased a ‘15 Silverado 1500LTZ crew 4x4 and made sure to find one with the max tow pkg (8L90 / 3.42) and the 6.2L. I got her to pull my 23’, 6500# camp trailer. In SE Idaho we’ve got so many grades to our camp areas that I wanted a 1/2 T that could pull at 65-70 MPH without having to rap out the engine. I’ve got a cold air intake on the way and am ordering a DiabloSport Predator 2 tuner that will disable the AFM, tighten the tranny shifting and combined with CAI, should add 30+ HP & TQ to her in tow mode. Next will be to open the exhaust (muffler replace and resonator delete)- the 6.2L begs to be heard. Real world tests are the best and your vid popped on my feed. Happy trailering!

Nice set -up indeed. I towed through the Rockies a Nash 24M (7000GVWR) behind a 2016 Suburban equipped with the max tow package and the 5.3 V8. Wow, in this configuration that engine was a real dog. Specially up where the air gets thin. I wished that I had the 6.2 for that trip, but the marketing folks at GM chose not to make that available to us Chevy buyers. They came to their senses and made the 6.2 available in the suburban for 2019. I wish that they would offer a turbo charged gasser, but I guess it would slow Duramax sales. Too bad. Hi amped! Great GMC geek out video! I have 2017 Sierra 4x4 6.2 max trailering 20 inch rims 15,000 miles. Quick question: Have you had a torque converter chatter issue after a long distance tow? Towed 4,500 pounds from NE USA down to the Smokys and back. Got home and 2 weeks later had the chatter on a steady upgrade (1 degree) at 40 mph keeping steady on the throttle, no trailer. It would also float/ hunt for lock up on the highway. TSB for upgraded trans fluid was done at dealer under warranty and no issue since. Wondering if you had/heard of issue? Also, for the mpg info guys are looking for: 95 degree Fahrenheit days, ac blasting, trailering on Interstate 81 and 12 percent grades on Interstate 26 is good for 14 to 17 depending on the weight of your foot and your hills. Unloaded highway 20-25 mpg with a best of 26. Unloaded city is 16-18. Ac on take off 2 mpg. When the temp goes below freezing, take off 3 mpg until you are 45 minutes or better into driving, then it goes back up to what I just stated. Thanks for the video!
@amped796 жыл бұрын
Hey great info! I have not had any issues with the transmission or torque converter yet but I have heard of people having issues specifically with the 14-16 trucks. Longest tow I have done is 3hrs but I have done it probably 8 times since buying the truck.

I just bought a 2016 with max tow. 6.2 and 8 speed. There was an issue with the transmission fluid causing a shutter (feels like a rumble strip) and posted a bulletin that they released a new fluid to put in these trucks to solve the problem. If your under warranty a dealer will flush it and replace fluid for free !
@nicholasierubino82234 жыл бұрын
@@mmcintire66 wasup? Yeah I found the TSB after I saw this video. Turns out it is part of a possible class action between GM, Castrol and ANYONE with an 8l90! Went in for the fluid change, all was well for a while. Then the trans started to do some funky hunting stuff, took it back they said it was the fluid temp sensor. When the truck took off on me a few days later (thank god I was in my driveway and alert). Couldnt get back to dealer and after that air ball and everything else i had in for warranty took it to the local shop. Turns out they didn't perform ANOTHER tsb for not only changing the fluid but also to clean/reset throttle and doing a flash on the TCM. Flash done, throttle cleaned, picked up 3mpg 👍. Submitted a claim to GM for the botched stuff, only got $202.39 for a $1019 out of pocket repair that the shop charged EXACTLY what the dealer would if it wasn't under warranty (they were sooo cool). All was well for a while, then the shudder again 🤦♂️. Took it back to the dealer and politely shoved it in their face. They admitted the second time they had the pan down, they installed the OLD DEX HP not the new Lv Mobil ATF1 (oi). So, flushed again for free. Now we wait. The tsb states that if it happens a second time, NEW TRANS. But the dealer isn't letting that warranty claim through. Sorry for the rant. But there is some valuable info for all in here. Still live the truck and dont want to get rid of it.

I am a huge fan of using WD Hitch. I tow an 8,000-pound TT with my 5.3, Shifting weight from the rear to the front axle improves safety, steering, and handling. I have also towed on windy highways thru Wyoming. A WD Hitch with a sway bar makes it a more comfortable drive, especially when a semi goes by. Of course, the heavier the trailer, the more important it becomes. Many people use air bags to level the load but those do nothing to correct the uneven load. Weight distribution does. Some vehicles state that a WD Hitch is mandatory over 5,000 lbs.

I am getting a weight distributing hitch put on when i get the trailer which im guessing will help the ride be alot better.
@amped795 жыл бұрын
My truck has the max trailering pkg so it has the higher towing rating then the denali. (gearing 3.42, stiffer spings/shocks and transmission cooler upgrade along with the tow mirrors) It has absolutely no issues towing around my 30ft 8000lb trailer which is 13ft high so it is a tall trailer. I use a weight distribution hitch. I would say that your trailer with the weight you mentioned will tow completely fine with your denali and you will be very happy. if you have the 5ft box you will suffer some stability over the standard 6.5ft bed as wheelbase is shorter.

@amped795 жыл бұрын
4.5 but this is something that is completely based off of the trucks brake controller and the braking system on your trailer. I may make a video on setting up your brake controller. Essentially when putting on the brakes you should feel an equal feeling of braking between the trailers braking force and your trucks. If you have too much gain, you will be locking up your trailer brakes. Too little gain and your stopping distance isnt good because your trucks brakes are doing too much of the work and the trailer brakes arent doing much.

I have a 15 Denali 6.2 with the 3.23 (non max tow package). Do you know the exact differences between the max tow and mine? Is it possible to add the max tow options to my truck?
@jtark93414 жыл бұрын
I had a 2014 non max tow and I ordered a 2017 max tow. what you get is the 342 gears, stiffer springs, larger transmission cooler, tow mirrors and different shocks in the front. my 14 was a 6 speed 6.2 crew cab 5ft 8 box and my 2017 max tow is a crew cab 6.2l 6ft 10" box with an 8 speed and it handles the same camper night and day difference between the two
@yareelohim774 жыл бұрын
@@jtark9341 thanks for the reply. Was your 2014 a Denali? My 2015 is the Denali with a 8 speed. So far all I have found different is the springs, shocks and 3.42 rear end. I had to pull all my RPO codes. The Denali even has the upgraded trans cooler and 9.75” axel that comes on the max tow and not the 9.5” that’s on all the other non-max tow. Just crazy to me that so far the Denali seems to have all the max tow features except the gear ratio and the HD springs. I can’t figure out why GM did that. I’d love the 10 speed transmission though.

how do you lock out 8th gear?? I basically have the same truck only Chevy
@amped795 жыл бұрын
Instead of D on the shift column select M or L depending on year of your truck. Then you can use the + or - on the column to signify the highest gear u want the truck to operate in. Very useful for gearing down on steep grades as well.

But you loose your auto grade braking when you shift out of drive into manual mode.

It's a EAZ-lift WDH pretty cheap and was given to me. Does the job and haven't had a need to upgrade.

Hi Tom, it is quite old and i am unsure of the brand. It is a very basic trunnion bar style and has no additional sway control. I may one day upgrade to a nicer WDH.

@@giobikefans 1000 percent nice trailer or the money. That is the dumbest comment i have heard. one buys a nice truck and house and "doesnt spend the money" on a trailer to match the rest. Whats the problem with this world. Geez. You dont spend all your time in your trailer so why does one make a comment like that. His priorites are his not yours . Matin you need to puff your chest in the campground with the nicest and best .
