I was wondering uniden icom or gme but after watching few gme videos I decided to buy 2 gme car units just because I appreciate the time and effort of making the videos (and to support local manufacturing)
@sa25-svredemption98 Жыл бұрын
GME also have the best reliability and capability. Uniden is just as reliable, but their inbuilt speakers can be a bit soft, especially if you have a lot of background noise (although this can be alleviated through purchasing external speakers). Icom are alright brand new, but they are made of inferior materials, less generous on circuitry solder, and use more brittle plastics and rubbers, and as a result don't have the longevity of GME or Uniden (although they are still more reliable than the extremely cheap brands that are often seen these days). I also note that GME is one of the few brands to fully ruggedise their peripherals - when mounted, the external mic, for instance, is mounted in such a way to be both firmly secured, and just as water tight and dust proof as the overall radio unit itself, especially when talking portables. In fact, I rate GME alongside Motorola, although GME is much less expensive than Motorola (and an Aussie company).

@GMEaus2 жыл бұрын
Hi Luke, thanks for the feedback and query. Yes, it is possible to have 2 antennas mounted to the vehicle and connected to the one UHF radio. To do so you would need to install an aftermarket splitter/switch to allow you to switch between them. Hi very informative indeed. Thanks. The question I have is when using Repeater stations in Duplex mode on my UHF 40 channel radio is what station to be on to TX and RX. I have channel list and I know 1 to 8 in Duplex but not 5 is the reciever from Repeater and transmission is on the list in the higher end of list. I have a list of repeater towers and their locations in Victoria. My question is what channel do you put your radio on and in Duplex mode and what channel does the other vehicle's 40 channel UHF radio need to be on in Duplex mode to have car to car comms via the repeater. The signal goes to the repeater on one channel and from repeater out another channel. Just confused how to use it for car to car whilst the two vehicles are driving around the area covered by the repeater tower. For example driving around Kevington and Jamieson in Victorian High Country and wanting to use repeater ontop of Mt. Terrible in Victoria.

I can't use the longer antenna around town at it hits the roof when driving into most shopping centre car parks. Found with the 4705 they kill themselves with how much they shake... Model below it lasts heaps longer! Slightly less stiff spring doesnt snap the fiberglass top
@GMEaus9 ай бұрын
We are interested to learn more about the failure you've experienced as the fibreglass radome on an AE4705 shouldn't snap from regular use. We have tested these antennas extensively across some of the harshest terrain in Australia and the only fibreglass radomes we've had fail are from impacting birds and trees.

Why do some people use 2 same length antennas or same type antennas? Are they linked to one uhf system or are there 2 uhf systems installed in cab?

Hi, interesting video, learned a lot from that. I owned a GME TX 472S radio for around 30 years, however I’ve just upgraded to a GME 4500S UHF radio matched to a GME AE4705B antenna, 1.2m 6.6 dBI gain. It should be ideal for the Kenworth cabover I own and the outback work that I do. My question is, I’ve mounted the antenna on a bracket at the rear of the cab and it is in between the dual exhausts. I’m wondering if I’ve got a high load on, whether I will have a good range to the rear of me, in other words will I be able to maintain a reasonable conversation with someone who has just passed me going the other way. Thanks.
@GMEaus3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, it is hard to be specific without seeing the exact setup, however it is likely you will still be able to have a reasonable conversation with someone travelling the opposite direction. In a heavy vehicle application we generally recommend mounting the antenna on the mirror arm as this will reduce obstructions and provide the best performance
@gm16v1493 жыл бұрын
@@GMEaus I mounted the previous antennas on the right hand mirror, but they kept getting wiped out by low trees, so the rear of cab is the the second best option I guess.

Hi mate, without getting too technical, there isn’t much difference between a 600mm and a 1200mm AM CB antenna, aside from looks. Performance-wise they are very similar, it just comes down to aesthetics

Tony, I just bought a 390C recently through 4wd24/7 and have seen your excellent video on antennas. My question is this, can I install 2 antennas, one at 2.1 and one a 6.6dbi to get the best of both worlds in regards to coverage? Using a splitter or something like that?
@GMEaus2 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne, this can be done but will require a splitter of which we do not offer. We instead recommend the interchangeable whips as this does not add another point of loss in the system and ensures the best possible performance.

I don’t want to carry my roof rack, lights and antenna with me everywhere when I am not 4WDing or touring. Is it safe to add a separation point to the coax by (professionally) crimping an FME connection in a weatherproof location? Is there an disadvantage to using a AE4026 around town and a AE4705BTP when out and about?
@GMEaus2 жыл бұрын
@@SalvoDan Hi mate, it is safe to do so but please note that this will add another point of loss into the system which may impact the performance. Also there will be a disadvantage to using the AE4026 as this is a lower db than the AE4704B included in the twin pack.

Do the gain of the antenna have any effect on receiving signals?
@GMEaus2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, yes it does. When transmitting, a high-gain antenna allows more transmitted power to be sent to the receiver, increasing the received signal strength. When receiving, a high gain antenna captures more of the signal, again increasing signal strength
