Maybe when it takes a piece, it just does it at random, and either side. Another possibility is that it could be a little like the duck, but once placed, it can't move. The other pieces have to go around it. Every 10 moves it eats a piece at random except for the Kings. Or maybe it teleports a piece to any location, also at random.

hippo would move like a tower, but pass through and destroy up to 1 enemy piece. if there's a second enemy piece behind the first piece, it will stop. otherwise, the other player is free to choose where behind the enemy piece it wants to stop.

The Hippo piece pulls enemy pieces at the range of 2 squares towards it killing both the piece it pulls and any piece inbetween. Say someone is on f3 and you have a hippo on f1. There is a pawn on f2. You pull the piece towards the hippo from f3 and anything on the file inbetween gets eliminated along with the piece. It only has the movement of a king and starts at a pawn position on the board.

Hippos are tanks that go through anything smaller than them. So this how I would force them to play: Starting position: On the exterior of the rooks. Can it be involved in a castle? No. Movement: They move like rooks. How they capture: - They cannot capture pawns. - They can capture a piece if there is nothing between them, just like a rook can. - If the hippo is on a tile directly adjacent to an enemy pawn, they can go through that pawn to capture a piece, as long as that piece is on a tile immediately on the other side of that pawn. (e.g. If a hypo is on B3 and an enemy pawn is on B4, the hippo can go through the pawn and capture a piece that is on B5.) *A hippo cannot go through its own pawns. *In order to go through an enemy pawn, the hippo needs to be on the file directly adjacent to that pawn AND the piece it is trying to capture needs to be on the file directly on the other side of that pawn. If either of those criteria is not met, the hippo cannot go through the pawn and it plays the same as a regular rook...that can't capture pawns.

But it cannot go on a square already occupied, so it can’t directly take like other pieces. But, It can take pieces that on any two squares in front, and 1 square infront diagonals…..? So an upside “T”. Potentially, K-H could take any of 1 of 4 pieces that fall into the “T” attack space in front of it…?? But, if you have friendly with an enemy piece behind it the second square, directly in front of the K-H, the enemy piece is slurped……??? Only enemy pieces directly behind and diagonal rear is it safe, for a piece to be near it. So should the Knight-Hog land on a square in front of a piece, it takes it, so long as it’s within that two square range, without the K-H having to land on it. Means pieces would also have to be careful of landing too close to the K-H, or they get “slurped”, unless they go directly behind it…. Or!! K-H can take, indirectly only on its move (I say indirectly, as it can’t land on an occupied square, but enemy pieces within the kill zone “T” will be removed on Players discretion)., so whenever an enemy piece lands in front of it on their move, they are safe?..? Be a very odd, powerful yet limited piece. Only one per side per white and black side. It would take place of the Kings pawn on either side. So now, 7 pawns either side. 2 knights. 2 bishops. 2 rooks. 1 Queen. 1 King All as standard. With 1 Knight-Hog in place of Kings pawn. Also, should a pawn promote, they cannot promote a new, Knight-Hog….? Or, they can…. As usual, there is a choice? Things to think about.

@@kdevelopergw sort of, yeah except it can only do forward attacks: 1 or 2 squares directly in front, and can attack front diagonally both sides. Meaning it’s flexible in what it wants to take. Example A. White K-H is on E2, and moves forward to E3. Squares E4 and E5 have black pieces, and also pieces on diagonally on D4 and F4 It can take any one of the black pieces on the four areas indirectly. Also, it can attack through a piece. Example B. White K-H moves E2 to E3. There’s a white piece on E4 and a black piece on E5. K-H can indirectly take the black piece on E5. Usually when a piece takes, it has to land on square of a piece it is attacking. So direct attack. But with the Knight-Hog, it can’t land on an occupied square, but it can take indirectly on any of the four squares as mentioned above. An indirect attack. It could potentially attack 4 pieces at once, but only 1 piece can be taken of the players choosing. Still ironing out the kinks I suppose. As the indirect taking rule… it’s an attack option that hasn’t ever been done in chess… so not sure if I’d still run with that, would need to try it out in a few games and see how fair that indirect attack rule is.
