I am a Spanish Rey Enigma follower since long time, the reason why he uses that opening is because he wanted to use one single system during his anonymous matches (the Colle system) to not be able to be recognized by his openings/elo rating, this thing alone makes this matchup godly difficult.

The opening he uses is the Colle system, which is his signature opening. He can't play his usual openings for identity reasons. Also, his identity was at stake in the Karpov's match. Thing to take in count: a) Rey Enigma uses the Colle system as part of his disguise. He used to think that Colle System was slow and only useful in low elo level, but when created his alter ego, rey enigma started to use the colle system as a signature. b) Because of that and the fact that he prepared the match against a 2300, he didn't prepare anything against karpov. Probably that's the reason cos he sticked to his colle system anyway, despite Karpov is the positional master.
@pullt3 жыл бұрын
I see the constant (over)use of the Colle as having many purposes. Enigma gets to bank time in the opening which is what ended up saving him against Karpov. He also gets to obfuscate his actual strength, as shown against Hikaru. It also allows Enigma to help hide his identity as the "real" player would be less rigid .

He fixed that later in order (I suppose) of not being recognizable. C) He totally dissappeared of chess24, when before of the appearance of Rey Enigma, he was always with Pepe Cuenca, David Anton and David Martínez, "Divis", in a lot of videos and challenges. It was fun seeing Hikaru comment the match vs Karpov. Ive seen Rey Enigma comment this same match and its amazing how Hikaru saw the winning move that Enigma missed (re3) immediately. 🤩

I thought he was kind of all for show, but when he drew with Karpov after essentially fighting him even and would have won on time, I came to realize that no, he has to be a Grandmaster. He's some Grandmaster out there. Has to be.

he drew because of time in dead lost position
@minephlip Жыл бұрын
nope, just good at blitz. Being a grandmaster would mean he'd be good at classical chess too, which he probably is not GM level at. In the video where he plays against Gothamchess you can tell Levy as an IM has much more insight in the game and is more aware of what's going on / what moves and tactics are available. But then Engigma holds his own because he's quick, good at blitz and talented at chess and turning around positions. But for sure not GM level and I think also not an IM

I went to read the comments in the original video, wondering, hoping that the non chess audience liked it, and wow, the viewers are really into it. "It was a historic moment..." "Watching this was an epic moment in my life, this was the best moment of Spain's Got talent and maybe even the world..." "I ate my nails..." And "OMG OMG OMG OMG ANATOLYYYY WOW." And the judges too. The beautiful woman said that she thinks it was one of the most emotional moments that she's lived in all these years (on the show). It's cool. The guy that was originally going to play took out a chess book that he used study on the train when he was 13 back in 87. I guess these shows are all about selling the acts and the public really get into things and reflect it.

Rey Enigma uses always "Sistema Colle Enigmatico" (named that opening like his name), he uses that opening to play closed variations (Colle System)

Always findin ways to blow air up Hikarus ass. He is a full time streamer, he is used to that I dont think its that hard for him anymore plus he is absolutley in his comfort zone. Engima played Karpov as a suprise guest on the most watched live broadcasted chess game in history with the premise to lift his mask if he looses (the highest stakes posssible), he had to be scared to death. How about appreciating that instead of Hikaru chillin and playing fun games. Also he didnt crush him, did you watch the second game, only way to win was if he flagged him...

41:19 Giving a draw to Rey Enigma was absolutely gentlemanly on Hikaru's part!
@msj86012 жыл бұрын
Yea get fooled then, Hikaru is definetly a self orientated centrist, with narcissistic traits, which he prooved several times. He can only appear as "gentle" when is in a superior position but ok.

The concept here that if Ray loses he have to reveal his face so he needs a draw or win and obviously as it’s been implied he didn’t know that he’s playing Karpov in until it was revealed on the stage
