Soccer comes from the full title of ‘Association Football’ when it was created in the Victorian period. There was also Rugby Football and other types of football so Soccer was used as a term of differentiation. For some reason it stuck in the states only though

Because we played a game we liked and called it football, so that's football now. We ain't gonna change the name of the game we like just cause the rest of the world wants us to. Similar to how we aren't going to stop using a lot of imperial measurements since a lot of people still like using them. Our temperature system, in particular, has no objective downside to using it. It is, in whole, equal to, if not better, than Celsius.

@@plantenthusiast3052 Fahrenheit has no objective downside just like Kelvin has no objective downside, but we still don't use Kelvin because that's not what the rest of the world uses. The objective upside of Celcius is that literally everybody else uses it. It's relative critical points (0 and 100) are something very easy to observe and understand whereas whilst fahrenheit doesn't feel as intuitive since it uses three different critical measurements for three different materials. So no, fahrenheit is not equal if not better than celcius. Celcius uses base 10 for it's critical points rather than Fahrenheit's relatively more arbitrary system. Communication of a measurement is arguably just as important as the measurement itself. Refusal to move away from the old imperial system seems to be this weird source of pride for Americans, as if your founding fathers intended for the US to never progress forward for a simpler and more versatile system *cough cough Thomas Jefferson wanted to implement the metric system cough cough*.

@Ketsu I disagree. The rest of the world should change to Fahrenheit. It's a better temperature system. I can switch to the other metric system components (m, kg, L, etc), but Fahrenheit must stay. It's just too good. Also, a core American value is in isolationism. It was a part of our culture up until WW2.

At 18:08 Hikaru takes with queen on a8 ,but if the oponent went queen to b8 ,forcing rook to take the queen on b8 ,to not get mated in 1 ,rook b1 takes rook on b8 bishop to e8 is the only legal move and after rook takes on e8 its checkmate now if the bishop were to block the queen when it goes to b8 rook b1 to b7 also leads to forced mate

Aha there might be a tiny shred of hope for us mortals. I may think that a 2600 would still be a challenge, definitely a strong GM should be past the disrespect threshold. How much is 200 difference at this level? It should be narrower than say the difference between 1000 and an 800. Any strong 2300 or 2400 seems still to be a student for Hikaru. If I overthink it I will definitely want to quit...We all should keep in mind this is one of the top 4 or 5 players in the world, any accessibility at all is pure generosity. Thanks Hikaru for posting, I am learning a lot from watching you play. It is like Kasparov's masterclass, but much faster time control. Regardless, I will still be happy to maybe crack 2000 in a few years if I can.

The more I learn about chess the more I realize the really good players live and breath it. And the true greats played as children. I have a deep love for the game, but I realize I will not ever be truly great at it. And I've reached 1200 before, I just say I'm 1100 cause I keep being knocked back to the 1100's.

I love the stupid soccer debate. We score more points with our feet than Soccer does and there are many football sports. In Gridiron football (USA and Canada football)??? You kick the ball into a goal or you run the ball into the red zone with your feet and on a some occasions, you can extend your hands past the goal line and score but also in Soccer, you can score off your head. Whoever said in USA football that you score with your hands and left feet out must have been smoking something.

95.75% of the global population use the metric system. "Soccer" is an English word derived from "Association Football" , shortened to "assoc", and then slang of soccer. This was to differentiate from Rugby Football (More like American Football) But Rugby football just became Rugby and Association football became "Football' most countries dropped "soccer" mainly except the Americans but England still occasionally uses interchangeably. Also on metric system, why wouldn't you use a system divisible by ten an weights and measures all related in some way? I thought you were a smart guy ? 😉
