I haven't been on FTD for a while, only a few times when I get some free time while in college, but to whatever disease you are infected with, I hope you stay well Gmodism 👍

Thanks mate, they killed it with a bunch of antibiotics and stuff! Well FtD remains whenever we wanna jump back in it :) Hope your studies are going well meanwhile!

Glad to see you back. I recently downloaded the Gimli and have been testing against it. I made a 2.9mil ship as a first attempt to take it down. I love APS so i have multiple high rpm ciws/attack turrets, as well as a some 500mm sabot railguns set to attack underwater. Went heavy on the lams and planar shields. I must say, the Gimli is just so hard to actually kill. My ship usually lasts until the 500k mats are gone, but i have yet to actually score a kill. And once your Crams get through it is over for me as I built too compact. Ive riddled the whole ship full of holes and it just doesnt go down. The Gimili is an amazingly durable ship. Well done.

Nice! If you are a lot into APS the only type of fun that found success is sandblasters so next you could try and make something less compact with such guns and spend less on active defence and see how that goes 🙂
@aaronsokol96010 ай бұрын
@@GMODISM Definitely going to keep working on a design to counter the Gimli. It is a very fun ship to try to take down. Do you have a discord? I would very much like to get into one of your competitions.

APFRAG for railguns is quite effective against craft with lots of spaced armour, especially compared to APHE. Also crams are almost useless against evasive airships while railguns are decent against slow ships and terrifyingly effective against thrustercraft.
@GMODISM10 ай бұрын
Indeed, fighting airships or submarines require totally different loadouts than our naval cannons, and whatever the weapon is, at this scale explosive damage does not compare to frag, same with crams and missiles :)

Glad to hear about your recovery, hope you get well soon. One other point about decorative elements such as superstructure is that they're good aimpoint magnets to buy the rest of the ship some time not being shot at.

Yeah, the best place to have decoys! and thanks!

Great tips! Wasn't expecting to see Drakky in this video, so that was a nice surprise. Very good advice on using decorations, it goes a long way to help motivate you to finish your designs. Especially if they are big! 👍
@GMODISM8 ай бұрын
Glad you thought it was useful! The drakky is a very formidable ship, with just some more crams and a course modulation breadboard I think it would hand over any other cram based battleships ass to itself, and most other designs as well!

One aspect I never see covered anywhere is the amount of materials per second any given craft (relative to its size) should use. Can you provide a guide for that?
@GMODISM29 күн бұрын
Well, a watercraft should ideally use 0 when not in use tbh, but that does not apply for combat crafts in combat or optimised for tournament…. As for campaign I will note your idea: making energy efficient designs for campaigns/adventure😉

with tip 9 i now have an idea to have a triple barrel APS turret where 1 of the guns is loaded with disruptor conduits to deal with shields and fires moments before the other barrels

Nice. Remember for passive float, stuff it full of wood. Also, if memory serves the AP of HESH is based on an average of all blocks the shockwave passes through so having several layers of wood after a hard outer layer with a hard spall catcher after the air gap can greatly neuter the damage of HESH(think: Metal-Wood-Wood-Wood-Wood-air-air-sloped HA/stacked metal, could do one air as well to save space although that will have reduced impact on HEAT although GMODISM's WiP hull handles that will multiple air gaps and spall catchers). Also, for active thrust tilt your propellers/thrusters to add a bit of vertical to their output(it'll drop speed a smidge) but will save you some altitude control power(note this doesn't replace the need for altitude thrusters when under active float only reduces their load when you are moving forward) And remember a 400 meter long, 50 meter wide blimp may float for free but will burn up a $2000 laptop if you poke a hole in it with sectioning off the air bladders(i'm not speaking from experience, it just made the game crash on every system i loaded it into if i deleted a block).

Yeah the water/helium pumps are banned in my gimle rules for a reason! Actually having the alt propellers tillt forward slightly might be even better for speed!

ok, that was enlightening. I have actually rethought some of the design decisions I made for my first battleship project (frozen years ago lol). What do you guys think: 1) Fire protection. Do we need it? I see that airgaps are actually huge wood fields, that fire can easily light the whole section. Should I put firewalls of stone in my airgaps? Would kinda hurt against hesh, yet it may help against all that wood just burning away. 2) Pumps. It sucks that pumps lag, I have always loved having ships that are floating like ships. Yet, how bad is it to put pumps in tight sealed spaces like AI compartments? I always try to offset that HA weight with some helium =) . Will that still produce lag? 3) EMP insulation. I have always thought that air is the best insulation, not rubber. So, all my AI cores are set on a rubber layer, inside HA box with "air gap" between AI and HA. Are there any downsides?
@GMODISM11 күн бұрын
1 nah, wood is still king it seems, only if you meet flamers this changes, don’t care that much just make sure your fuel tanks are below water! 2 pumps always lag, having them causes calculations, even if they are turned off, for small ships it’s fine, for battleship it’s a problem. If you get micro stutters, remove them and see ;) 3 air, not sure I get it… I will recommend my instant emp insulation tutorial it has everything you need to know!
@Vivicect0r11 күн бұрын
@@GMODISM Thanks for an answer! As for air, I meant having an airgap btween mainframe and heavy armor casing. So, if EMP travels from block to block, then one block of free space should insulate better then one block of rubber.

hi people. is there a way for prevent clipping of barrels? i just build triple superimposed cannons, and place each ones barrel top of other for prevent shooting mysel but barrels going inside of front gun and hit it :D or when enemy is behind, my front guns still trying to fire and shoot my guns or superstructure. i can fix latter by build a limiter but can't find a solution to prevent gun depression.
@dylanwilliams986010 ай бұрын
Can you restrict the firing angle to fix it? In the ap firing piece you set it I believe.

If you have turrets in a row, ensure they are a few blocks above/taller than the one before it.

I see, I'm building too compact and without enough armor, although i do tend to build fairly small but expensive builds.
@thecrab279118 күн бұрын
why do you use so much layered wood rather than alloy?

I can't play From the depths because my computer is neglected by my parents. It's currently out of commision due to a failing hard drive, outdated hardware and software. I always wanted to make battleships of my own but I am restricted to paper and pencil.

Sounds like a pretty shitty computer, perhaps you can buy some old pc cheap and use some of our tutorials to make it usable, always better to have ones own system if possible.
