Yes, it's from the 5th job skill called Crystal Gate. After summoning the crystal gate, you gain a buff that lasts for 25 seconds which is reapplied if you stand near it. The buff creates the honeycomb attacks which target 3 enemies around you. Note - you still maintain the buff for 25seconds regardless of your distance from the gate, you only need to stand on it to reapply the buff.

I've only gotten pathfinder to level 200 so I cannot speak for pathfinder. But I can tell you illium mobbing can be very lazy, in some maps you can stand in one spot and hold one/two buttons and still get decent rates (check my burning cernium training video).
