I just got a 1-700 scale model of Zuikaku. I haven’t started on her yet, since I’m still working on my Akagi model, but a can’t wait to. Zuikaku is my favorite Japanese carrier, my most favorite carrier design, and my second favorite carrier behind CV-6 Enterprise. Once I my 1/700 Enterprise model arrives, I’m going to have 2 US carriers and 2 IJN carriers. Enterprise and Lexington, and Zuikaku and Akagi

This was an AWESOME summary of the life of Zuikaku I have always had a soft spot for this beautiful ship. In my mind, she survived the war to become a memorial along with the Enterprise docked side by side at Pearl Harbor. Then I woke up :(

The best ship of the IJN and a good tribute. Never understood the thinking that attached hr to Ozawa's force. With Shinano soon to be completed and Junyo available they could have assembled at least something resembling a force capable of some offensive action or at least something that a better chance of anything better than the ill-fated Yamato sortie. Best

True but a few problems stand out One is that Shinano wasn't supposed to be an actual CV, more of a resupply ship to operate at the back The 2nd is the the speed difference, Junyo is the slowest of the three ships and the third is that the lack of aircraft was just terrible at this point for Japan's naval aviation

Yeah they had a few carriers left, but when there are hardly any aircraft or trained pilots to put on those carriers they’re nothing but oversized barges that make easy targets.

Like the other commented, they indeed have few carriers left such as Amagi class, problem was there were no skilled pilots left, the ones left are spreaded too much across pacific, this makes them as easy target, while they are not perfect for offensive, they are perfect for baits, which they did pretty well on Leyte.

@@Bisexual_Sovereign The point that I was trying to make was to point out the short-sightedness of the Japanese High Command. For, if everything went according to plan, they would only accomplish a delay in the progress of the war and they would simply end up with a surface fleet and little else. The speed of the Junyo shouldn't be a factor in any case as it would meant to be a target and it would have made more sense to send out light carriers to be done with. Since they had newer aircraft designs the time bought could give them the opportunity to train new pilots. Basically the plan they had would leave them just as impotent as a defeat. Thanks. PS Oversized barges would have been better as far as that goes

1:37 One detail you missed here, Santa Cruz wasn’t the first time Zuikaku and Enterprise met in battle. It was at the Battle of the Eastern Solomons from August 24-25, 1942 that the legendary rivalry started. The battle was an inverse of Coral Sea, there the Shokaku twins had faced two nameship carriers with Lexington and Yorktown. At Eastern Solomons they faced two ships that were each the second of their classes; Saratoga and Enterprise. The battle cost the Japanese light carrier Ryujo and a devastating 75 aircraft, while the Americans lost 20 aircraft and Enterprise received heavy damage. But her famous luck held out, and the Grey Ghost lived to fight another day…

Well the japanese weakness at midway was poor decisions by nagumo and the ijn didnt have enough planes so if they had 2 extra carriers worth of planes things couldve gone differently

I really like that..." *Her hull begins to buckle and groan as she begins her final plunge. She reaches out her hand and Enterprise bends down and clasps it.* Zuikaku: "This is where we part Ghost. I go now to the place where my beloved twin waits for me. I am honored to have dueled an opponent as skilled and worthy as you. I shall reuinite with my comrades and regale them with your stories of courage and honor, the only opponent in Japan's thousand year history that it couldn't defeat." Enterprise: *Chuckles.* "While you're at it, tell them that now, we're even." *Zuikaku chuckles, then begins to strain in her final moments.* Zuikaku: "Enteprise..." *Enterprise comes closer, Zuikaku raises her head and whispers her last words into her ear.* Zuikaku: "I shall....extended your greetings....to your....sisters....for.....you...." *Zuikaku collapses to the sea, the life leaving her broken body.* Enterprise: *Solemnly reaches down and closes Zuikaku's eyes, then stands and salutes as she sinks beneath the waves.* "Goodbye, Auspicious Crane. May you now know peace in the port of Fiddler's Green." *She holds her salute as Zuikaku's funeral pyre glows on the waves in the shadow of the setting sun.*

Thank you ♡ In my opinion both Zuikaku from AL and KC is actually soft inside, and both really cares with their sister, sure fans always look at KC Zui as tsun, but i realize after 2 years of playing KC most of the time she is a very cheerful girl, after you marry her, she occasionally ask the admiral not to push himself, showing that she actually care with the Admiral. AL Zui, like what you said have soft side inside her also, she really like the Commander but rarely says it, but sometimes she indeed show that she like the Commander And both have another similarities, Both are super cute, and if you marry them, their reaction are just adorable uwu

Well no certainty in war, at least Zuikaku completed her last mission. tbh i really impressed with the US Tin cans fleet, they still fought back fiercely even when they are heavily outnumbered and outgun, they even win it.

1 japanese carrier got away , also the bombing didnt destroy the ships. The planes and ammo inside the hangar did. The info is wrong and the music is terribly shit. Should have used the japanese anthem instead , why ? Because that is the last thing heard by those aboard the Zuikaku as it sank and they chose to perish with the ship.
