This sounds like a live version. The actual record has different vocals as it was originally recorded by a group of session singers and this ended up being the version released as Guys & Dolls didn’t have time to go back into the studio to re-record it.

According to Wikipedia (I'm just repeating what I've read) this ISN'T Guys n Dolls. The song was recorded by session singers and then fronted by these fashionable dudes on TOTP etc. That being the case, I wonder who receives the performance royalties ? If I've shattered the illusions of the few remaining Guys n Dolls fans, I'm sorry. I actually like this song. Lots of good memories of spring 1975.
@pepperpots10 жыл бұрын
This performance, though, is by these singers. This was a live performance, or at least it sounds like it is. It's different to the recorded version which was, as you say, done by session singers.

I was a teenager then and this shite scarred me for life.Charts full of dire crap like this ,music for grannies and bell ends like Edmonds and co as presenters.Then came the Pistols!Clash,Stranglers etc to blow a hole into that lot and give us what we desperately needed.Music that meant something to us and that we could identify with.God save the Queen.

I'll stick to the studio version pepperpots! Forty years after this song charted I've discovered the truth. Now who gets the performance royalties? That is what I'd like to know.

tyreburster You still don't understand the hell of it, For once and for all : The song was originally recorded in September 1974 by a group of session singers (including Tony Burrows and Clare Torry) for a TV advertisement for McVitie's biscuits. Guys 'n' Dolls were put together to cash in upon the popularity of the jingle and to present it as a single. However the group was not ready in time to record an entirely new version for the single's hasty release and so the voices of the session singers remained on the single. The song became an immediate hit, rising to No.2 in the UK singles chart, launching the group to overnight stardom. I rest my case.
