I know this video is 5 years old but it was SUPER helpful to me as a newbie and trying to troubleshoot some laser/origin issues. You are a FABULOUS teacher...thank you so much! I'm definitely going to check out your other videos.

I am a new Lightburn user, with a new Ortur LM2. Yesterday, while testing my machine, it was obvious to me that I did not understand why the laser was going to where it was. Thanks to this video, I now know. As others have said, I will need to watch this video several times to fully grasp the concepts. Thank you for this much needed help. It is a nicely done video too.

Hello. Thank you so much. Listen, in my Italian language lightburn the origin setup is REVERSED! I mean, if you click on "avanti sinistra", that means "front left" the red spot goes on "rear left"! I repeat, it's the origin set up to be reversed and consequetly the laser behaviour, but thanks to you and this video I've tried changing and doing reversed and now I've solved the problem.

Happy I found this. Was struggling to figure out why certain features weren't working but didn't know how to configure the software. Thanks!

You are just what the doctor ordered on job origins. Found out about it don’t matter where the image is moved it around just like you showed, and it made no difference. I knew the issue I was having as something simple it always is. Just didn’t have an understanding of how it worked. Now explain if you haven’t the frame command it seems to mirror the item being created.

DUDE! I just bought a laser from a friend and have wasted 2 days trying to figure this out! Thank you for explaining this so clearly. I thought I was losing my mind... was it machine problem, controller issue, software bug or user error. And, as most things go, it was user error. many thanks again

I thought I had set mine too, using set Origin and then home, but then get OOB error on a small 2x4" design. Restarted LB with head on origin, manually moved with hands to where I wanted the center of design to be on the wood, then I get OOB. I'm guessing I need to move it using buttons not manually, but IDK so confusing, it won't move with buttons but its all setup according to video using plug & play settings. Looking into answers on forum now.

I am also a new user of a D1 pro 20w in Lightburn. I just downloaded a grid. And today now when I home it's a little offset. Same as when I go to center of my grid. As you mentioned in the beginning of this video there may be some offset. Can I re-calibrate my home start to line with my grid? I want to know if I type in the coordinates it will go there. 🤔

years later but new to both LightBurn and my laser. If I am using my LightBurn camera with my rotary, would I be able to use job center to center on my tumbler when starting a job. the camera puts me in absolute coordinates but right now it always moves my tumbler off where I want the logo or text to be centered.

Hi. Thanks for the accurate and clear video. I'm just starting out in the laser world and looking for guidance on how to set a starting point when working with a template I made to place products on the table. My problem is that I can not determine where the starting point is when I place the template on the table and then the production is inaccurate. If I move the laser manually ... it does not return to the same place. Can you help?

Carl - Thanks again for this video. I have also posted on the forum a question of material settings. I am CNC user (VCarve Pro). I am used to setting up my material and putting my design inside the bounds of that material. In addition, I cannot figure out how to measure an object in LB - I messed up today and the object was not large enough for the material. I hope you have another video that sorts this out. Any advice will be appreciated.

HELP! just setup new LightBurn software. My Keypad on the laser (Chinese 40w) still goes up, down, side to side like it is supposed to BUT in LightBurn my whole job board is flipped! Looks perfect on the screen but when it goes to burn it is completely reversed! Like when I try to burn TEST is upsidown and backwards. Same when using positioning laser head in LB. up is down etc. Something is the settings is jacked. (When I switch back to RD Works everything is fine) (Great video by the way. thanks!

Hi Gabe. I'd recommend heading over and asking your question in the LB Forum. forum.lightburnsoftware.com They'll get you straightened out.

Hi Carl, It´s a great video but... I have installed the J-Tech laser 3.8W on my X-Carve and on the right side of my spindle. But I can´t figure out how to set the laser to a zero point . Every time I like to move to the lower left point it runs into the side ,so I have to use my panic button

Good morning. I thought the X-Carve had limit switches built in? Unfortunately I'm not sure if I have enough info to help you troubleshoot but if you go over to the LB forums you may get some help there. But it also might be a good question for the Inventables crew since X-Carve is their baby. I know my Shapeoko I had to add limits but I thought they came stock on the X-Carve.

Im struggling to line up my pieces. Eg. I have an a4 piece of paper, with 35mm circles on it (5 rows across, 5 rows down). How do i line up that paper piece on the bed, to ensure the laser cuts them out exactly? Do i set my dxf in lightburn at 0.00x 0.00 y and then position my laser at 0.00x 0.00y?

How does the show last position thing work? And what are your jogging options for a K40? Do they support a joypad, or can you move the head quickly using the arrow keys?

When I setup a fixture and select the vectors to not output (my template vectors) can I lock the template so that it can not accidentally be selected and moved? I have fixtures I physically index in the machine and the start point never moves once set. Thx

hello, I use lightburn recently, but I can not use the absolute coordinates. The machine uses the set one as zero and not the one from the program.I did the test with RDWorks instead it works. the origin of my laser is at the top right

Hi Paolo. I would suggest posting your question to the Facebook "Lightburn Software Support" group here: facebook.com/groups/1190357787764055/ or email support@lightburnsoftware.com as the best course of action. I'm not sure why you would be experiencing trouble with that.

How do you change the work space position in relation to the actual machine position. the work pace in my set up is in the x0y0 work space (Grid) extends in the positive upper right quadrant. However, my Machine after homing is located in the negative lower left quadrant (no grid) space. After attempting to adjust in the setting, program will not populate a negative number to match the machine position. even when using the user origin, it wont populate the negative numbers either. ??????
