GNER diversions at Carlisle Saturday 24 April 2000. A few hours spent at Carlisle Station and Kingmoor Yard , with the East Coast line shut north of Newcastle for engineering work there was a steady procession of East Coast Hsts and West Coast services plus a few freights..

Another walk down memory lane. Many thanks for sharing this. I have great memories of travelling as a daily commuter with GNER. It was a proper company, that took pride in its work and looked after its passengers.

Great video, I seem to remember seeing my first 66 in 98 at the Coal yard on London road being loaded for Tyne Dock, they were new then in fact the Driver was still referring to his Electromotive manual when I got a look round one. Those 92’s didn’t have a long life before they were parked up. It was a busy place late 90’s early millennium with plenty of variety then, it is getting that way again as long as the economy holds up.

Thanks ! Carlisle was a very busy place in 1998 when the Anglo - Scottish coal trains were running as you say things do seem to be improving as more container trains and other types of freight running now.

I have an old copy of Modern Railways that did a report on the then new Electrification and resignalling of the Carlisle area and one of the photos shows that Tea stain on the new power box!.

Hi Andrei a class 92 on an MGR was not that unusual a lot of West Coast Freight was in the hands of 92s at this time and occasionally they would appear on MGRS.

Also notable how dominant EWS was on freight; DRS was a fairly small-scale operator then, the only real competitor was Freightliner, and I don't think GBRf even existed then

Thinking about things that have improved since then: rolling stock on Northern services; Class 158s are now used on S&C services, and 156s on the Cumbrian Coast (note Class 142 peeking into view at6:58); and Carlisle Station has been nicely renovated and cleaned

First job the privatised companies did was to paint all their locos and coaches in dark colours to hide how dirty they got. BR Intercity livery was much nicer and of cleaner appearance even when dirty.
