Absolutely loved the video and watched from start to finish till 3.54 in the morning. I really envy that train driver, I wish that was me driving that train. Hope we can have more videos like this from various regions in the UK.

Absolutely brilliant video. Lots of history along the way very well presented. Loved the old 305 EMU's also

Great vid. GNER was great for on-board service, something most other TOCs never achieved. Approaching Morpeth, Fred D refers to GNER's planned order for tilting trains. Aah, just think what might have been if....😁 Blyth & Tyne: It did reopen to passengers - eventually - just a fortnight ago (Dec 2024)! Reston: This was the reopening eventually favoured by Scots government in the area. Reopened in May 2022. Within the Borders section missed out in the video was Penmanshiel Tunnel, which collapsed in March 1979 during work to lower the track level for increased clearances. Fun fact: BR and Scottish Office agreed a new 1150yd deviation for the ECML avoiding the tunnel, and work started on site just six weeks after the accident. Not only that, but the new alignment opened to traffic within just five months after the accident in August 1979. Cannot imagine that happening today.

I worked for GNER for a while in the 1990's, on the 2nd day of my induction, we went to Edinburgh from York, on the way back, I got to ride in the cab of the DVT for short while, I doubt they would let you do that now.

Darlington North Road station is indeed a museum, but it is also a working railway station on the Bishop Auskland line

Vintage!? - that's from the mid-90s at least (the drain train at the start retired in 93/94??) It was only - erm - 30 years ago *coughs* - I travelled on those 225s a lot - they worked well tho the 125s had SLIGHTLY comfier seats, they were a bit more seasicky

Well in the 80s I remember things from the 50s being called vintage…that was also 30 years difference. Times change.

It states it takes 2h20m to get from York to Edinburgh but the video is only 1h38m long?
@RoyDidlock6 сағат бұрын
The original DVD was in two parts. Part 1 London- York in real time while part 2, York- Edinburgh was " compressed" presumably due to time constraints on the DVD.
