@dstinnettmusic3 жыл бұрын
@Domagoj Recc it’s for testing the newest gnome software. You aren’t really supposed to run it on hardware. It doesn’t even have a package manager.
@Flash1364 жыл бұрын
Cool distro! But if I remember correctly, they intend it more as a Gnome demo, than an actual operating system. So people shouldn't really be using it as their main OS. Something like Fedora Silverblue will probably work better for people wanting this kind of a system
@Doriandotslash4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true. But it does still run just like a distro! Cool to play with

@@Doriandotslash its exactly like the kde neon variant witch is a play test distribution for kde development and testing not in the sense that its based on the same distribution ... gnome looks like it's scratch but in the sense of beta testing things and letting developers catch and test widgets and apps and update them accordingly for the new version
@sangramjitchakraborty78454 жыл бұрын
@@NanescuRadu1 there's no package management in Gnome OS as far as I know. So the only way to get software would be to compile from source. It's really not intended to be a full OS like KDE Neon.

Linux without a package manager is like hand without fingers or a motherboard without a cpu.

Three uploads in one week! I missed all 3 of them at release here too, only finding out on Twitter today (blame youtube). While I like Gnome, I always found Budgie nicer to me, and more usable for me. Anyway, from where I am in the video, seems quite good.

Could you install the Guix package manager on it?

If the installer is a script or executable, it might work. I have tried Guix yet. It’s coming up soon 😉

I ran it on parallels on mac but I had to choose to boot the iso as a cd/dvd the one cool thing I found is that the terminal monitor TOP has been revamped. I'm not sure if this was Gnome's doing or someone else but top is now very similar to htop or btm -b so that was a nice addition. This does show the glaring issues with gnome that has plagued it for years. No easy way to enable dark mode, no simple way to keep the dock from being hidden and the folders need revamping BADLY. But other than that it ran pretty well in a Mac VM.

Yes, it is based upon OSTREE. This is created from the same debian sources used to make Endless OS. No fedora tools here. The future of desktop linux will be ostree. It is sad that Ubuntu is not aware if this yet.
