WIKI GUIDES - Whisperer

I haven't done Whisperer since Blorva so this was a little rusty but a fun challenge nonetheless. Whisperer is one of the DT2 bosses I find hard to swallow because it feels SO slow without Shadow. It reminds me of Phosani's with how many unnecessary phases it has to pad the content. I was hoping for a bigger difference between my choice of gear for the budget vs the wiki's recommendation (Phosani's and my ToA 500 had EXTREME differences). Every day the Wiki never ceases to amaze me with the weird and misleading information
I'll probably be doing these at least once a day or so LIVE on Twitch/KICK every day, so catch me there, but if not, you'll find them here in a day or two.
I think next up I am going to do DUKE, and the rest of the DT2 bosses.

HCIM avoiding MA1 makes sense. (Even though it’s a bit of a cope as it’s trivially easy to escape if you get attacked there and it has such low requirements it’s not much time lost if you do get pk’d). That same HCIM doing DT2 AND killing the post-quest versions before doing Barrows, RFD, Fremennik Trials, getting a glory, and only getting half of the MTA items does not

@@adamwoolston253 I think the confusion Gnome is having is that its not supposed to be the "minimum" setup, its a potential next in line replacement in each of those slots. the odds of them having none of those upgrades is basically impossible, so gnome acting like the right side of each slot is what the wiki is actually recommending feels disingenuous, hence what people have been commenting on. its a fun series but it feels a little tone deaf of the guy with max infernal and blood torva not getting why players cant just buy best in slot for each boss

A lot of the wiki is also like- only use this item with this thing *2 etc. But this is a good way to show people that you don't have to have bis. You can do it, just keep trying!

My problem with Whisperer is, and I’m not sure if it’s the environment or the boss itself, I just experience extreme latency issues with it. Like I don’t play on max graphics or anything like that and every other boss/activity is fine, including leviathan, just for some reason Whisperer doesn’t work well

I think I'm insane then, I'm a main who was an iron and is still playing as an iron working on the last couple skill reqs for dt2 and have an amulet of power, a warped sceptre, ahrims top and bottom usually just wear the fremi helm for prayer bonus running around with mannacles cause i got no mage boots but plenty of swag, no god cape but I do have an elidinis ward though. I'll get it done though. Fang/zombie axe should help alot with fatty and skinny, and I think my best range weapon for Leviathan will be the atlatl or the sunlight hunter crossbow not sure which is better.

GearScape confirmed to me I was already using my best possible gear and my whisperer pb is 3:14, but avg kill time is around 3:45-4:00. Can confirm it just sucks until shadow. My setup is trident of the swamp, virtus mask+robe bottoms, ahrim's top, occult, tormented, brimstone boots+ring, book of darkness, imbued god cape. Also using forgotten brews, thralls, mystic might and seercull spec with broad arrows. I wouldn't have bothered with this boss before shadow but I have 2/4 soulreaper axe pieces (those from duke and vard) and i'm 970 levi kc no lure looking to mix things up... The sunken cost goes deep.

Mitre is for pures I think, and some items are inefficient to get for ironmen before going for dt2. that being said nothing tells you so and it's a bit silly. Cape of accomplishment I can understand since it's at least some defense/prayer if there's nothing to help dps. Some options just don't help at all though, that veracs skirt at phosani's was pretty funny

You dont do hunter for a glory, you just get the crafting level. Dragon imps are actually terrible to hunt if youre not a content creator that gets free scouts and you need crafting for zenytes anyways

If you’re vigilant about doing it along with herb runs and birdhouses you should never have a problem to get crafting since you’re going to unlock lunars on your account at some point and just have it banked. Glory doesn’t halt your progression and it’s really small boost to an account at the time you get it. It’s a great stepping stone item don’t get me wrong, but the crafting level is much more valuable than an early glory

Wiki downgrades are all over the place. Desert Treasure 2 requires 75 magic to do at all (So Occult/Trident/MA Capes), so unless you're an iron I fail to see how most of those downgrades are relevant to begin with. Even if you're an iron, some of them are strange choices as well if you consider time to obtain. My personal favorite is the skillcape in the cape slot (presumably for the prayer bonus) when even an Ardy cape 2 gives the same prayer bonus and has a +4 magic attack bonus. Still completely silly overall since god capes are just better and easier to get (unless maybe if you're a hardcore). Gear section absolutely needs work.

As i said before, I like the series idea since it's a stupid little bit of fun, but you really need to chill on the "misleading information" angle. It's not misleading information, just you not understanding why it's there. You need to remember that gear for ironmen is tied to different skills and not just gp. That repeatedly killing a boss is more than just how fast you can kill it once. Even for mains, thinking of supply cost and trip length is useful. Ironmen go a bit overboard and will definitely double their kill time if it means they save a few doses each kill. Helm: Losing 2 magic bonus from ahrims/farseer/infinity to get +5 prayer bonus is absolutely worth considering. Cape: HC will not go to wild in most cases so no mage cape. The Skillcape needs to be trimmed. And this chart doesn't include ardy cloaks or souls cape. Amulet: Occult (93 slayer) Fury (90 crafting) Glory (80 crafting/hunter). So yes, people will absolutely go down to power or magic. 4 magic bonus is probably better than 1 prayer Top + Bottom: nothing really wrong here since you sacrifice too much accuracy for too little prayer bonus Mainhand: Trident (87 slayer) vs. Warped Sceptre (56 slayer) Offhand: mage's book is slightly better if you don't care about the defense from the ward. Book of darkness is solid Gloves: some people are weird about quests, probably more of a Main account issue. but it's only +3 so it's not a huge loss. Boots: all of your boot options suck. Wizard boots are fine. This would be another good slot to consider adding prayer bonus to with Devout/sandals. Ring: These are fine, just depends on if you want prayer or accuracy or just whatever you have access to.

No, doubling kill time to save supplies is never worth on an iron. Between toa, sepulchre and contracts the game throws thousands of ppots at you. Time cost of making a prayer potion is a few seconds at most(100 ranarrs per 4 min herb run). So no, you wouldn't double the kill time to save on prayer unless you play a no herbrun locked snowflake ironman.
