I love how you talk about the composition and the emotions/sentiments each phrase and section elicits. Very useful for remembering the flow... Thanks for the video, not only insightful - but also beautifully delivered!

Nice transcription. I agree with your approach: staying as close as possible to the original, not adding guitaristic tricks, not overly rearranging the music. I recently did this for a gymnopédie. An interesting excercise to discover the world of Satie's music.

Ya, although I have heard successful versions with slurs and harmonics as well. Just a difference orchestration.

That 3 to 5 hammer then 3 to 2 pull of crushes my soul… in a positive way 😢
@Thisisclassicalguitar Жыл бұрын
Ha, don't let it get to you. Practice planting/placing the first finger needed in a very solid and obvious fashion even if you have to break up the rhythm. Then start cleaning up and reducing the planting until the rhythm is correct. Double check your overall guitar position as well which helps with the stretch: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/lesson-left-hand-stretches-on-guitar/

Thanks for your time on this beautiful piece, i'm learning this song from Jean-Yves Thibaudet and he is playing it a half step down if i'm not wrong, which makes me feel weird about all the videos on YT with E tuning. And i'm playing it on a 7 strings guitare with midi software (guitar midi 2) to have a piano sound, which is quite tricky because you need to forget all about guitar playing. You should give it a try because your version sounds fucking damn good!

I love this piece so much, from the moment I heard it in "le feu follet" movie. When I decided to learn classical guitar it was among the first "can I play it on guitar?" questions. KZbin is rich in high quality content these, but this channel is really something else. I'm set to follow your method books, hopefully I'll have patience to be able to play it some time. Thank you very much! P.S. What do you think about gnossienne #3? Is it substantially harder, or on approx. the same level?
@Thisisclassicalguitar2 жыл бұрын
The other Gnossienne's are more difficult mainly due to the key. This particular one can really utilize the open strings when arranged in this key.

Great lesson. I have always wanted to play this, and your lesson makes it seem more approachable than I had thought. About what grade level would you say this is?
@soapybacon43582 жыл бұрын
7 by his notes
@Thisisclassicalguitar2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I place it at grade 7 because of some small stretches and upper position work. It's pretty secure and stable though so I could also say a range of grade 5-8 depending on your approach.
@Ana_crusis2 күн бұрын
Those first two notes on the E string should be hammer-ons
@Thisisclassicalguitar2 күн бұрын
I do not use slurs in my edition. I'm am going for a very uniform sound. But, you can certainly add them in when you play it for sure.
@Ana_crusis2 күн бұрын
@Thisisclassicalguitar I don't mind. I'm just pointing out it's part of the music. And your reasoning doesn't make _any_ sense because you use slurs everywhere else in the piece.(Even though you seem to think you're not using them)
@Thisisclassicalguitar2 күн бұрын
No, I only use slurs for the grace notes. All the primary notes I'm plucking. I think I'm pretty consistent about it. Also, the music is originally written for piano so I would not say "it's part of the music". It's an interpretive choice. As I said, totally valid to include them but it's not part of my interpretation.

I like to play this piece (not as well as Bradford) at dusk or in the dark. For some reason this piece makes me think of a vampire seducing his next victim. Weird, I know, but just in time for Halloween.
