if it doesn't do vnav ops, what is the purpose of the vnav button?

It would only do VNAV to one fix/altitude. It couldn't do a 'descend-via' with multiple step-downs. But if the flight guidance panel in the airplane didn't have a VNAV function for the autopilot, you couldn't couple it anyway. The comment in the video description about VNAV was to say that this video doesn't demonstrate that function. I just made the video to demonstrate to someone how to initialize the box and input a flight plan, especially the # trick for entering airways.

how annoying is this to reprogram on a runway change for an arrival and approach considering if its lnav capable?

Not great, but doable. Use the DEPART / ARRIVE and APPROACH line-select keys to enter the new runway and approach.
