Great intro to GnuCash that's still relevant in 2019. It's clear, concise and to the point, with no wandering off into unnecessary tangents. More importantly, there's no rambling, five minute introduction covering all sorts of things *other* than the actual topic before we get to the topic (which is a frustratingly common "feature" of a lot of instructional videos these days). Instead, GnuCash remains the focus throughout. Very nicely done, Quentin. Thank you very much!

Thank you! Such a clear video. I've been using Quicken 2003(!) since that year and while it has worked flawlessly for 20 years I am gradually moving to Linux. GnuCash looks ideal but its use of double-entry is different to Quicken however, thanks to your video I get it, and it rang some bells from office days. PS at 12:22 "£60...petrol... expensive" -- 12 years after this video, in 2023, it's £1.58 a litre so it's costing nearly 60 quid to fill up my little Honda Jazz. Hey ho! 🙂

Excellent review and explanation. I've been looking for a bookkeeping application to replace my spreadsheets. On the topic of tax years in the UK. I was told that taxes and rents used to be due on the Quarter Days, which in England (but not Scotland), were 25 March (Lady Day), 24 June (Midsummer), 29 September (Michaelmas) and 25 December (Christmas Day). In 1752 there was a change, in England, from the Julian to Georgian calendar when 11 days were skipped in September (causing riots). This meant that the 1753 Quarter Day of 25 March now fell on 5 April so tax years in England have been at that date since then!

I just downloaded it today and when I launched it for the first time, it gave me the option of starting in a new user tutorial (or something like that) mode. That launched a user guide, kind of like an owners manual. So, the way I look at it, the people who wrote the program probably explain it best. So I would start there, and only if the explanations are insufficient would I look to get a book. Totally your call though. Best of luck.

Thank you for this nice intro tutorial. GnuCash (or any other accounting software) can be very intimidating for people new on accounting stuff but after seeing this it's not that scary.
