The song is basically about summoning spring, and about sowing seeds

'Shum' in this case is an ancient Ukrainian word for 'forest'. The song is built on the base of before christian ukrainian songs and ritual of summoning spring. Btw her green "fur" symbolizes forest.

OMG so I got it 🤣I'm from Spain and I loved this entry, they were one of my favorites. I supposed she was a witch from a winter forest, all dressed in black and green moss, summoning spring with an ancient and mysterious spell. And I don't understand the lyrics or searched for the meaning at all. They did it right if a foreigner like me, from the other side of Europe and who can't understand ukrainian, could get it, just by the music and visuals.

She said “Thank you” in Ukrainian at the end. By the way, during the winner’s press conference Moneskin said that Shum (pronounced sh-oo-m) by Go-A was their favorite song at Eurovision that year.

This song is a traditional "spring song" - spring songs are ancient folk songs, they tell about the upcoming harvest, field work, this is a very old tradition, about the arrival of spring, about the arrival of spring birds, and about how nature blooms - even before Christianity tradition. She sings that she is planting hemp. Ancient Ukrainians made hemp cloth for clothes and sacks, and so on.The style of her voice is the style of Ukrainian folk singing. The song and singing style is a tribute to tradition + electronic music. Greetings from Kiev. Sample spring song - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3jId6qAe5x7m6s

I knew the chorus of this song because Thomas, the Maneskin’s guitarist, that night is been dancing like a crazy and Damiano asked to the singer to learn some words and he struggled 😂

Like some Eurovision knowledge: Every song in Eurovision does not have live instrumentation. So Maneskin no didn’t have live music. That stopped since like the 80s. Her song shum is about summoning spring and how winter leaves. She got 2nd place from public voting and this was the fav song from every Eurovision fan and then some.

It's not flute -- it's sopilka (ukrainian traditional instrument), and Kalush Orchestra also don't use flute, they use another ukrainian instrument - tylynka (tilinka). It has only two holes, when flute has 14-16 holes
