Get a couple of "hand warmers". Can put them in the bottom of your sleeping bag for for those who get cold feet at night. 🙋

I would add a three way charging cord with your battery. Also, a space blanket or bivy bag, as a minimal redundancy, if you choose to go with wife or children. I didn’t see any firewood processing tools. Or a tarp. Add some bags of nuts, candies, jerky or a jar of peanut butter. Some meds for cold, cough, pain, maybe heartburn. Some flavor packets for water, adds calories and encouraging you to drink more. Maybe some 5 hour energy shots for the final push. And lastly, I would get rid of the cut off spoon, and get a folding handle spoon from MSR or Sea to Summit. And make similar packs for your family or passengers.

It's colder where I live so I carry a few lifeboat water bags along with my grayl filter. If the water bags freeze the bags don't split and can be thawed. I also freeze them and use them as cold packs in my lunch cooler in the summer I can either drink them or refreeze them . The mesh bag in your stanley can also be used as a trap for crayfish by adding a frame of sticks I just twist the stick into a coil. Speaking of the stanley instead of a key ring for the lid I find an s hook twisted 45 degrees attached pinched closed to the lid with the other end open it is easier to remove the lid while hot with stick or spoon and with the handle folded the hooked end can be hung on a cord , or chain .

After a trip to the woods with my son in which we both struggled to get a fire burning because several days of heavy rain had everything soaked, we both started making sure that we have at least one road flare in our packs. You just light it, pile a bunch of wood on it and, 🔥

The reason there is a thermometer with your compass is the delineation error ratio increases the lower the temperature gets...................made you think. 🤗 The side opening on your main pack is a very good idea. I will try and incorporate it into the pack I want to make.😉

Fantastic loadout, my friend! Things to keep you warm without a fire or in addition to a fire (ie: clothing, sleep gear, etc) is definitely the most important thing during this time of the year. This was a great reminder that I need to put a few more items into my car kit.

That was a nice looking pack but at over 600 dollars I'm going to have to stick with my USMC ILBE. I would also like to say I definitely enjoyed the video. Noticed your BIC lighter you need to remove the child safety guard it'll make striking it easier and if it got wet you'd be able to dry it quicker. I would also but either a small zip tie or twist tie around where the plunger is so that is doesn't accidently discharge.

Good call. I don’t blame you for not spending the high dollars. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. It is super comfy and If this pack lasts the next 10+ years, it would be a good investment.

My pack is also the ILBE. I've had and used many different packs over the years. I'm a disabled Marine veteran and have very sensitive neck, back, and shoulders to packs and weight. I've always come back to my trusty ILBE. The only pack I can haul any amount of weight comfortably. I modified and lightened mine by leaving off the top cover and cutting off all the extra Molle webbing I don't have a need for.

I have a very similar stove setup, a Trangia which I place inside a folding twig burner. The advantage being you can burn bits of deadfall in it also. Using a tarp in winter - I use the British Army Shelter Sheet which is around 10 x 9 ft - you can warm yourself up and cook under your shelter with a twig stove no problem unlike in a tent where this is unadvisable. Got to have a goretex bivvy bag too all year round here in the UK, again mine is British Army surplus. In spring / summer I take a Dutch Army poncho instead of the tarp.

Great kit! You probably have it but I didn’t hear you mention water, a full bottle or bladder to get you to a water source. Maybe it’s not an issue in the East where water is more abundant but in the mountain west it can be many miles between water sources.

I love the truck. Looks good and seems highly functional and I love the thought that went into it. 2 questions: What do you think you have invested in material cost and would you recommend this project to others that are handy, but not mechanics?
@ONThree
@ONThree Жыл бұрын
I probably have about 15k invested in it with a ton of labor. I have learned so much! Would I recommend a project like this? That’s a tough one. Huge investment in time but this really feels like MY truck. I know it better than anyone and I am confident I will be driving it for a long time.

I found a wisperlite stove at a thrift store and it looks barley used and it came with all the parts. Do you thinks that is a great stove to use. I also bought a wood burning stove off Amazon. I aslo bought a lot of fire starter cubes from dollar tree stores and also from a thrift store I bought a mirro pot set it came with pots and pot grabber and Sawyer mini water filter. I go shopping at thrift stores oh an I also found emergency blankets. Anything else that I should get? You can also use contractor bags to put your items in so they won't get wet also keep plastic bags that you get from grocery stores it will help you carry items from one place to another.
