Wow I just recently watched the Beatrix Potter documentary narrated by Patricia Routledge, and now this one. She (the author) is such a deep complex and fascinating human with such a rich story. The term "national treasure" is batted about perhaps too often, but Beatrix Potter? She's the real deal.

Ahhh! This was absolutely lovely but WAAAAAY too short. Would love to walk there but as Im in my 70s, living in Florida, guess that won't happen, so thank you so very, very much for this lovely visit to a home that has given us such a warm feeling of home and what that all means in a time when so many are coming "unhinged". Cheers and maybe it could happen again...???? 🥰❤👍🏻

I learned how to read and to listen how I was read to by my Grandmother, who was an amazing woman. She read to al of her children in the same way and my Father naturally picked it up and read that wonderful way to my sister an myself. The intonations, the quieter parts, the slightly louder parts, the pauses and the cadence- it was ALL fabulous- and therefore, I read to my own children that way! I also read to my young students in the same way when I was privileged to teach the dear young one's. I knew it all worked because they were enthralled. I have my Dad, ny Grandmother, and I suppose her Mother and on to thank for this ability. So much fun! It brought everything to life! But Beatrix Potter did that, herself. What a wonderful woman--so brilliant, talented and far-seeing. And what she did for the land conservation, because of her wonderful books and drawings, is legendary and a lovely, philanthropic side of her, which was always there. I love her.

My interest in mushrooms led me to BP's biography by Linda Lear and wow... She was such a wonderful woman. So smart, productive and inspiring. I hope I can visit Hill Top and the national park one day!

I absolutely love Beatrice Potter and all her wonderful characters. They just make me smile and feel wonderful. I have so many wonderful items that Beatrice potter created and about three years ago, or maybe slightly more. It was before Covid that I got to visit Hilltop farm, and also her husband’s lawyers office which, like you said, how is a lot of her paintings and of course, the world of Beatrice Potter. I absolutely loved Hilltop farm it felt like I had been transformed to this magical place, almost like I was a kid again. thank you so much for keeping all of her wonderful things just how she had it. The fact that she preserve the land so that it couldn’t be built on and was given to the National Trust to look after was just amazing. ❤❤

I've always loved reading all of the stories she wrote, and watching the videos based off of the stories. What I've never liked though is when Nickelodeon made a TV show and Colombia Pictures made two Peter Rabbit movies that didn't have anything to do with the original stories.

@@nationaltrustcharity Thank you very much for your reply. I would be very interested in a tour of Standen, the red house, the hall at felbrigg, Mr Straws house, Hardys cottage in Dorset, Monks house in Sussex or the Wordsworth house in Cumbria. Some of these may be online already but they are the first that spring to mind.

@@nationaltrustcharity hello there I'm a big fan of her books Beatrix Potter was born in Kensington London on July 28th 1866 she lived for 77 years and died three days before Christmas on December 22nd 1943 in her youth she frequently went on holiday with her family upto the lake District and sometimes Scotland as well but she and her brother regularly spent time together going for walks in the countryside both of them really liked the wilderness and enjoyed seeing different types of animals these would later become Beatrix's idea of writing books on

I don’t want her house to go I find it retro if she was alive right now I would just ask her lots of questions about Peter Rabbit Non Stop It’s Unfortunate How She Died but its quite interesting in a nice way just to be going to the Peter Rabbit Museum :)

Why do the original paintings have to be put away for so long? Is it so they don't fade?
@nationaltrustcharity
@nationaltrustcharity 2 жыл бұрын
Hello M, yes you are right, the watercolour pigments and also the paper they are painted on can both be damaged by too much light so we have to limit their exposure.

Are you able to say who Beatrix purchased Hill Top and Castle Cottage (Sawrey) from. I'm trying to confirm if it was my ancestors. Or can you lead me in the right direction? I amin New Zealand, thank you.

Hello Donna Stewart, we believe Beatrix bought Hill Top from local landowner, Frederic Fowkes, on 15 November 1905. We hope that helps.

The dolls house seems to be a replica, doesn´t it?
@AnnaMaledonPictureBookAuthor
@AnnaMaledonPictureBookAuthor 11 ай бұрын
It is not a replica, but rather a totally different doll house she purchased many years later from a local person. The doll house from the books belonged to Norman's niece and Beatrix's parents didn't let her go to see and draw it in person, so she drew it from the photos. Apparently, nobody knows where that doll house now is.

Quick question:- where do the terms 'puddleduck', 'cottontail', etc originate? You'll find that her 'genius' was in plagiarising folktales from the Black slave experience in the old American South. Has this been publicly acknowledged and credited by the Potter society and avid readers?
