I been leaning guitar about 5 years now. I had a few instructors in this time. Some were ok, some were good, one sucked eggs. I’ve seen many on line teachers on you tube over the years, mostly all pretty good. Stitch IMHO is top shelf. Explains everything and he can get the point across in a fun way and not like hammering in like a storm trooper. He keeps it light and fun and always smiling. Thank you for your talent and what you do my friend.

Physics in play! When the pick is held loosely, it "wobbles" a little bit with each hit of the strings. That wobbling releases some of the energy. By contrast, when the pick is held tightly, it doesn't wobble, so no energy is lost -- all the energy is transferred to the strings.

I am a beginner (only 1 year in but I am 66) I am finding out so many subtle things that affect sound. The day I by chance used a thicker pick I was amazed at how the sound changed (on my Martin D16E) I was an auto mechanic for 40+ years, the job and arthritis took a toll on my hands (both hands but my left pointer finger is the big problem. I really enjoy the times I discover that I already knew how to do something I thought I still had to learn. A lot of this "guitar playing" is convincing yourself you can do it. I see the "imperfection" in the wood right above the soundhole on your Taylor. My Martin has several (and a much bigger one in the same place) of those areas. I look at them as something that makes it unique. I will always be able to identify my guitar with just a glance.

I hear it my friend. I've been wrestling with dynamics for quite awhile. Because of my rate in the Navy, I've broken several fingers and a few of them were the same fingers lol. It causes me to squeeze real hard so I don't drop it or let it spin. But since I've been doing it for so long it's hard to stop doing. But I'm getting it. You have now been in the mind of Mike lol. I decided to learn Adrian Legg's piece Last Track from a book of his with 12 transcriptions. I started to learn this song having not heard the original recording! I did find a couple of covers on KZbin in different keys. Anyway, I learnt it from the transcription. I can play it through with fairly even dynamics. There were times where I could start to hear the various parts of the piece emerging hinting at the dynamics I should be employing. So I order the CD to hear the original. Chalk and cheese. Astonishing use of dynamics a great study piece.
