Always remember. There is no such thing as a problem. Only a situation looking for a solution. There is someone out there that can help. You just have to find them. Great video and I liked the boots Crystal.

Red Beard just recently had a similar issue with a steering rack on his customers yerf build. He built a bracket that mounted to the ends of the rack and then moved the tie rod ends to the bracket. He was then able to make it as wide or narrow as he wanted, to keep the ends in line with the suspension pivots. Hope that helps.

Taking the time to make sure you do it right! I think no matter what you do you'll probably end up with a small amount of bump-steer. But overall, it looks great! But are those heim joints going to be big enough? They are looking pretty small next to those tires!

Just an opinion but have you tried looking at RC Car Action magazine for ideas for some of your designs? I used to be into those little vehicles for several years and they speak of things like "bump steer" and "castor" and "camber angles" all the time. Also in the magazine, or online, I suppose are photos of the newest RC Cars and trucks out there. Some are very radical designs that really are great engineering feats. Like I said it just a thought. I miss my days of playing with those things but just can't keep up with all the new things they come with, mainly the cost of them, but I still enjoy it though especially watching you overcome some these problems and actually making your carts driveable and watching your children smile from ear to ear. That makes it worth the hours of work that you put into making the carts. God Bless and keep on making smiles on everyones faces with your creations>>!!!!

Hey Tman, just subscribed, but I have been checking in from time to time and really enjoy your vibe. You are not afraid to share with the viewer the mistakes and pitfalls. I have had the nod of agreement and sympathy for these moments that you relate. What really caught my attention was this off road build. I will be following closely, but in the meantime could you let us know where you got the plans for the front clip assembly, and I imagine that they have the plans for a whole cart.

I wouldn't worry about that problem, I noticed that in a citroen AX (20 year old car I found in the scrap yard) the steering linkages weren't pivoted in line with the wishbones at all, they were only pivoted at a common point, in the middle of the car

I see a problem if used at higher speeds you are missing anti dive in your control arms layout if you tip the front of the upper control arm up about 5-10 degrees you will add anti dive while braking

The fame that the A-arms are attached to is the upper part of the frame welded to anything? if it's not you could actually mount it above the upper A-arm and virtually eliminate the ump steer.

Wow,I'm confused as to how I'll do my steering but this just throws me.. What do you think about using an aluminium ladder as the chassis on my tiny 49 cc build? I'm planning to bolt instead of weld and as its my kids first kart and won't really be going to fast but steel would be far to heavy and it probably wouldn't move at all.. Cheers

Hi Tman, I am intrigued with the build, I have a cart project that I rescued from the scrap. It has a hinged rear end power module with a snowmobile 380cc fan cooled motor, 2pt belted transmission going to final chain drive to live axle and discbrake. This one man chassis, with a little modification, could be paired with your A-arm assembly. A simple weld on type arrangement. I am very interested in your U.S. suppliers for Hubs and Rims Tires and the rack/pinnion All Harbour freight and BMI?
@mytraea
@mytraea 9 жыл бұрын
Seems to me you would be better to drop it down in line with the bottom A arm pivot not raise it. As this would bring it more in line with your extended steering rods

TMAN! you need to go check out a user groutaone! he is building a long suspension build and he has a way to completely change the caster in the rear and front wheels. go to his channel and look for long travel suspension build! you could definitely learn something from his videos!

is it bad to have no camber or caster at all? have same length arms top and bottom so keep the tire square all the way? would that be weird on the steering?
@Tmansgokarts
@Tmansgokarts 9 жыл бұрын
I dont think it would. You should be ok as long as you dont beat on it to much.
@LittleHotels
@LittleHotels 8 жыл бұрын
+GoldStarTech No castor would make it horrible to steer. The 7 degrees mentioned seems like a good starting point, but if I were building it I would put some spacers on either the top or bottom inner rose joints so the castor could be adjusted later. Zero static camber is not so bad, but again it should be possible to get a bit of adjustment by screwing the outer rose joints in or out. Adjustability also allows you to correct any dimensional errors that have been created in the welded parts. Finally, personally I would have gone with more camber change by making the top wishbone shorter.
