Hello to everyone joining us from TikTok and Instagram lately! 👋 Here’s what happened: A snippet from this video was uploaded to TikTok, claiming that we are a “Church Choir” blissfully unaware of the song’s sexual undertones. The result? Absolute madness: Thousands of videos worldwide, tens of millions of views, and uncountable comments mocking this supposed “church choir”😲 Fun fact: GO SING CHOIR is literally the opposite! We’re a secular, open pop choir where EVERYONE is welcome - no matter who you are, where you’re from, or how you live. Singing, celebrating, and connecting people is what we’re all about. Of course we were aware of the double meanings in Madonna’s iconic song, which stirred controversy already 35 years ago. @@kwebb121765 Yeah, but this is the one that went viral on TikTok in recent days, and people (especially Christians) thought it was their duty to come here, lecture, and harass everyone after being deceived by TikTokers. There are so many embarrassing reactions on TikTok from people mocking this choir or clips with the audio file. And even if it was a church choir, just let them sing whatever they want. Most of those clips with an actual church choirs are very old so why bother them many years later. Even this one is two years old.

Its actually funny becuase the entire purpose of the song was to be purposefully ambiguous. Madonna said in an interview the original song was written about a girl so in love with God, she only wanted to be with God. She then rewrote the song to purposely be ambiguous that you get from it what ever you bring to it. There is no verse that is specifically sexual, that was literally her goal. If you listen bringing the innocent love of God it is a totally innocent song, if you bring a sexualized mind it's a sexual song. The meaning is wholely up to the listener, which for me was the icing on the cake of all the people bashing it when they thought that it was a church choir singing it.

We've got something similar to this in Toronto called Choir Choir Choir which I go to when they're not on tour. I invited a new friend along once and said it was fun, but he didn't like the sound of it... ...then later he discovered their KZbin videos and thought it looked really fun! My friend hadn't wanted to go because he assumed that it was a religious service, just because it was a choir! It took quite a bit to convince him that there is absolutely nothing religious about their events apart from some self-deprecating jokes about the choir leader's Jewish heritage!
