I've long been into old, obscure, rare, and unorthodox instruments and musicology and I'm happy to have found your youtube channel as I don't see many people sharing this interest elsewhere. You're ability to pick up any of these lesser known instruments and make them sound good is amazing to me. I feel like various types of zithers and mandolins are a part of american musical history that are being forgotten and I'm glad your channel is helping document them and keep them alive.

Very reminiscent childhood memories of a music teacher who would bring different magical instruments as these ❤🤩

So wonderful that such sweet mysic should be coaxed from this simple harp! One can only imagine the shepherd boy who soothed his restless flock with the same simple harp and the songs he composed to sing praise to God! You're a wonder, Dee Dee, and I'm so grateful for the capricious algorithm that led me to your channel! Thank you, thank you!

That sounds so lovely! I have a 16 string lyre that sounds similar to that harp. I’d like to find a German zither like my great grandmother use to play. Thank you for the inspiring video.

Your interpretive melody is absolutely beautiful. Reading the Bible with references to David playing and singing has always made me curious. Now I have some ideas of what that must have sounded like. Thank you.

@Dee Dee Tibbits In Germany this is a harp for children from Waldorf education. I found this on a German homepage: "The children's harp is a beautiful musical instrument for children. With its pentatonic tuning, it is inspired by the ideas of Waldorf education. Children from the age of 6 can learn to play the harp. The instrument is a good introduction to the world of sounds and is particularly suitable for the free discovery of sounds and melodies. However, it is also possible to play simple pentatonic songs, which are particularly popular and well-known in Waldorf kindergartens and Waldorf schools. Parents of younger children also like to use the children's harp as a gentle instrument suitable for children's ears for a little evening music to put them to sleep. Last but not least, it is also used in a music therapy context." Children and I (guitarist) prefer to play the instrument with our fingers rather than with a plectrum. 😉

Thank you! That is SUCH helpful information! My Son-in-law actually went to a Waldorf school, and his mom was instrumental in my getting a hold of it!

Some really old harps had holes in the top….like yours. They also had a strap at the back to Hook the harp to your hand. The left hand touches the strings for the other side and mutes the strings that are not in the chord you’re playing. A Russian Gusli is similar but is played in the lap with both hands free. I love your channel.

💛🦋🪕🎸🥁🪘🪇📯 Do you perchance have a Ban*ura in your collection? My best friend in 6-7-8 grade was half Ukra*nian, and she and little sister played that (huge and beautiful) once-banned (by Russ*an Tsars) instrument. I did not know the terrible political background then, but no WONDER her Mama and Grandmama wanted the 2 girls to play. Reclaiming valuable heritage. 🫡😇🎶🎶
