James Woods loved being Hades so much he's had an open offer to Disney to voice the character for scale for any project they have, including the follow-up TV show. Heck he even came back for a random episode of House of Mouse.😁
@Depth217
@Depth217 7 ай бұрын
He comes back every time Hades appears and is probably the most recurring character of House of Mouse outside the main Mickey cast. Only time he didn’t voice him was one singing line in Mickey’s House of Villains and even then he sang another singing line in the same sequence.

Idk who thought putting gospel music in a movie about Greek myth was a good idea.... but it was an absolutely legendary idea and I really hope they have a good life forever. Also, "That's Phil's boy!" at the end gotta be one of the most cathartic lines in any Disney movie.

They used gospel music because Greek theater used to have an omniscient narrator and choir that would introduce scenes and explain things so they combined both of them into what you see in this movie.

the original version of the hydra in the myths had a lot of heads but didn't regenerate them, but in the most famous version of the Hydra, in the Labors of Hercules, it did regrow heads, and if you took off one head, two take it's place. and in the myth Hercules killed it with the help of his nephew, who immediately cauterized the neck each time Hercules cut a head off.

3:58: "I don't know whose idea this was, but it's a great idea." "To combine this genre of music with -- " "Yeah, like gospel music over a cartoon with Greek mythology. Somehow it hits." So, the song music for "Hercules" were written by Alan Menken, and this film is actually the second time he's worked in this particular musical genre (meaning gospel music). The first was for the film "Little Shop of Horrors: The Director's Cut." * If you like music for "Hercules" it's probably worth your time to react to "Little Shop" too. * It's a long story, but there's a theatrical cut of "Little Shop of Horrors" and a Director's Cut of "Little Shop of Horrors". The Director's cut is a more faithful adaptation of Menken's off-Broadway-play, but they made a theatrical cut to appease a test audience. Editor's Note: Alan Menken collaborated with different lyricists on the songs for "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "Home on the Range", "Tangled", "Enchanted" and "Disenchanted".

so the thing with the Fates sharing a single eye is taken from another trio of sisters in greek mythology, the Graeae (they also had to share a single tooth). They were daughters of Phorcys, a minor sea god, who was also the father of the three Gorgons.

The Last Movie of the often called "Disney's Renaissance" Era was actually Tarzan which came out in 1999. Atlantis The Lost Empire came out in 2001 and was part of the "Experimental" Era of animation, tho it wasn't just a Disney thing, the experimental era was also seen in other big animation studios and was started by DreamWorks' First Big Hit which was The Prince of Egypt back in 1998.

Man i love this movie. I still own the VHS copy of this movie and fun facts • Hades says "Relax, it's only half-time" right in the middle of the movie. • In the movie, Pain and Panic take the shape of two snakes in order to kill infant Hercules, but he simply grabs and tosses them about. This is another reference to the Herculean myths, where goddess Hera sent two snakes to kill infant Hercules, who simply grabbed and choked them. • While the movie is about Greek myths, Hercules is actually the protagonist's Roman name. Heracles is his Greek name.

22:38 that kind of freeked me out as a kid 🤣 🤣. Yes James Wood as Hades is perfect. Initially Hades was supposed to be a darker and more intimedating traditional villian, but when Wood came to the role he gave him this used car sailsmen personality type. I think one of you brought up that you wouldn't have really been able to really appreciate this as a kid and I agree. I enjoy this film as a kid but being older (especially with more knowledge of greek mythology) I am able to appreciate this more. I feel the same about the animated series which I didn't grew up with but had been rewatching lately 😎. Lastly, the Arnold Schwarzenegger pregnant film is called Junior lol.

Hercules was my JAM back in the day! Everyone has one of those movies that simply formative for their childhood and personality, and this was it for me. Also a dorky awkward, often misunderstood kid with waaayyyy too much strength for his age, Herc just was an idol to me. In the end I think the message is what solidifies the movie to me. No matter your strength, fame or whatever, a true hero is only born by doing what is right. And baller gospel music. It's mandatory, man.

Something they don’t say in the movie but I think would be a cool detail would’ve been if Hercules’s adoptive parents mentioned they’ve had 15 years of solid perfect harvests. And it was because Zeus and the gods always made sure they had a perfect harvest so they could always provide the best possible life for Herc. Just something I thought about seeing that giant stack of hay on their wagon when they arrive to the town market.

The most beloved strongman in all of fiction. His legend has inspired many great heroes throughout fantasy. Herc himself has been interpreted into Live-action, animated, film, television, video games, comic books, you name it. In the 1990s, Hercules:The Legendary Journeys with Kevin Sorbo and Young Hercules with Ryan Gosling (both tv series/same universe) were the peak of the hero's popularity. But nothing could prepare us for when Disney would take it on. At first, i wasn't interested. But i had to see what they would do with one of the eldest IPs in history and it was indeed a cool feature. One of the best films of The Disney Renaissance. All the trimmings, well deserved in the summer of 1997. The songs are great of course including "Go The Distance" which is never left out of the Top-Tier Disney movie songs. A straight to video sequel called "Zero to Hero" was the prelude to the animated series that ran 2 seasons (65 episodes). Even with this adaptation, the truth of Herc's story still holds up. Finding our place in the world, putting our gifts into the right path and always using our heart as our greatest power. A live-action remake of this is in the works. Don't think they should make one. It's fine just the way it is. If you wanna see a non-kid friendly version of the legend that is a hardcore story of Good and Evil with no holding back, watch HERCULES (2014) with Dwayne Johnson.
