Go West Live featuring Alan Murphy 1987 - part 4 of 4

Go West in concert as part of the Runaway Train tour promoting the "Dancing on the Couch" album. This is the second incarnation of the live band - the core remains Peter Cox, Richard Drummie and Alan Murphy but now with Pete Adams (keyboard), Jaz Lochrie (bass) and Jimmy Copley (drums).
I know a lot of fans feel the first line up was best but these guys are totally on it - they're superb players and as tight as a gnats crotch here!

. The King is Dead (Alan uses what was, at the time, a revolutionary guitar midi controller called the Stepp DG1 to play the trumpet solo - ironically his idol Alan Holdsworth favoured the Stepp's rival, Synthaxxe)
. We Close Our Eyes (lovely light clean solo before Alan rocks out!)
Please remember this has been captured from a VHS tape that is now nearly 25 years old so forgive the glitches/graininess and the fact that Chrysalis didn't put a bloody HiFi track on it! Enjoy...

Man, does Jaz make that fretless sing on "The King is dead"...! A M A Z I N G ! ! ! I know all these basslines were originally created by the one and only Pino Palladino, and yet Jaz Lochrie comes up with tasteful/kickass new ideas all the way thru. Genius...

Wow. I could not stand them in the 80s but looking on now, what amazing talents. The wonderful Alan Murphy who I had the pleasure of hearing live at the Liverpool Empire on the opening night of Kate Bush's Tour of Life concert, 3rd April 1979. All gone now, but not forgotten at all. RIP Alan.

Thanks for posting this concert, I have this on video, saw them on that tour. My ears pricked up when I first heard "We close our eyes", then saw them live on "The Tube" & thought who the F is that guitar player ! What a band, pity they were marketed & targeted at kids, the musicianship must have gone straight over their heads & kept going ..... RIP Alan Murphy - sorely missed & such an underrated player - a musos musician really I suppose ......

Always thought and said the same Mate. Kind of got marketed as another Wham ( as good looking Fellas) but put together 2 different blinding touring bands, had Pete's cracking voice and Super Al on lead ( and rhythm) in Their Locker- plus some cracking tunes!!! Shame.

This was back during an era where they tried to cram a full concert onto a 60 minute VHS and laserdisc, hence why the bloody ending credits happen right in the middle of We Close Our Eyes. So terrible. Thank God these packaging days are over. Now FULL concerts can be put out without time limitations.

I can't believe that they decided to use 'King is Dead' as the first single? A slow jazz number? It's fine, but not for a single, the album isn't super strong but True colors and Chinese Whispers would have both been better choices and are just better tunes imo
