The Goa Inquisition by Portuguese marks a dark chapter in Goa History. It included mass conversion by christian missionaries. However, less of us know about the Goa Inquisition and how the Portuguese rule in Goa India began.
In today’s video, we will know about Goa invasion by Portuguese, the Portuguese invasion in India, and also, Goa before Portuguese i.e., who ruled Goa before Portuguese. In the timeline in history of Goa, we will also know as to how Portuguese came to Goa and how Goa became christian in faith. Very importantly, we will also know about the involvement of St. Francis Xavier in Goa Inquisition. @@historynaama 1. At 1:20, you describe the purpose of three inquisition to be against other religions and uprooting them. The reality was that the inquisition was only supposed to be for Neo convert catholics and catholics who were suspected of apostacy. Although, in Goa, the inquisition extended it's reach on Hindus, Muslims and Jews specifically in the basis of royal decree. 2. The Goa inquisition was established in the year 1561 after King João lll died in 1557. 3. Francis Xavier wasn't responsible for the inquisition as he was hardly in India for a couple of years, left India in the year 1550, never to return and died in the year 1552 of the coast of China.

@@anant9514 That letter was ignored by King Joao lll of Portugal. The inquisition came even after King Joao lll to whom he wrote letters to died in 1557. Even in that letter he only mentions Christians who were suspected of crypto Judaism or Islam. He makes no mention of Hindus or pagans. And no. Not all Goan catholics having Portuguese surnames are descendants of Portuguese.
