After watching your vids last year on that charger & some others on KZbin I bought the guide 10 last winter. I have used it on a few hikes/camps and canoe/ kayak trips. I never have really charged right off the solar panels, I always charge my phone or camera off the battery pack. I have some AAA batteries I use too for my headlamp. I love this product and have no complaints of it. Very useful in the feild. Just the other day I bought me the goal zero speakers. I loved them. Sounds awesome.

Thanks Bob I have a similar battery pack & was thinking about getting a solar charger for them. One bit of info for you - battery packs like these can usually only put out about 1 amp of power & an iPad needs 2 amps to charge. The battery pack cant push enough juice for the iPad to see it as usable power & turn on its charging circuit.

Nice real world review. I use the same setup and love it. A slightly larger panel (Nomad 13) may charge your stuff faster and even under less than ideal sunlight. I also use the Nomad 27 with my Sherpa 150 for "car camping" which woks well. With the inverter, I can charge my laptop twice while using it at the same time. Nice pack and parachord wristwear BTW.

you are very right about that. I tried charging mine with it off and still would not charge. I'm thinking of trying a nomad 13 to see if it will charge the iPad but I'm not sure. Course with iPads being expensive these days I don't think I want to risk it..thank you very much for that information brother and have a great night.

that's a very good question dan.I could probably do a whole video on this subject. I still might but to answer your question. A smartphone is basically a mini computer. I'm sure you already know that. It is constantly performing system updates. Such as checking the mail checking Facebook KZbin and updating system resources.also it's updating weather and scanning for wifi connection. This all is a drain on the battery. Now the Nomad 7 its only 7 watts in direct sunlight if you're lucky.

I'm a member of Team Rubicon, a veteran disaster relief group. We use Goal Zero gear all the time and it work as advertised if you properly size your kit for your uses. I get a discount but I purchased my own gear. I've used all kinds of solar systems and the Guide 10 plus is decent for smaller devices. It just doesn't have the capacity for real charging though. The Sherpa 50 kit is my preferred setup as it can easily charge all of my gear including my radio for a few days if there's no sun to charge from. The only thing I don't like about the Sherpa 50 is the damn push button LED switch that always manages to get turned on in my pack until I superglued it.

thanks for all the information I feel a lot better about my solar panel now.how long does it take the sheep a 50 to charge up a laptop?
@cypherf0x
@cypherf0x 10 жыл бұрын
Bob808Knight . It really depends on the laptop. The Sherpa 50 has 50 watt hours of power storage. If it's within the specs it'll charge just as fast as plugging it onto the wall. You can use the inverter with it but there will be some efficiency loss. It can provide 75 watts of power but that will drain it in about 45 minutes. You really have to examine all of your power usage and size your power supply appropriately. You can chain two Sherpa 50s together for more power.

excellent Jason. Can you buy the speakers without the solar panel?
@Bob808Knight
@Bob808Knight 11 жыл бұрын
The solar panel cannot keep up with the demands of the smartphone.especially the newer ones with the faster processor .so by shutting your phone off it shuts down all the systems update.and stops to drain on the battery that way to charge up. Now on my older smartphones it wasn't a problem because the process was slower.it was a less of a demand on the battery.I hope all that made sense to you. If you have any further questions feel free to ask brother.

Hey, I was wondering how much charge time you get out of your guide 10 pluse battery. I just bought mine and I'm not impresed with it. My galaxy s 3 only gets about 70% charge. I guess that is while its running. I read some where that NiMH batteries need to be used a couple times to get full capacity. Did you expirence this? How well does yours work for you?
@Bob808Knight
@Bob808Knight 10 жыл бұрын
hi Matthew. First off I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. For some reason I'm not getting my notifications..to be honesty I don't remember how it was charging when I first got it. I can tell you it charge my epic 4 G phone with no problem.now I have a note 2 and it has a problem charging it all the way up. A lot of times I have to shut the phone off to get a full charge. But it does charge my camcorder battery with no problem. In my GPS. Matthew I hope this information helps you out if not feel free to ask more questions.

For the price of the Goal Zero you can buy 6 extra Note 2 batteries
@upanddownspiral
@upanddownspiral 9 жыл бұрын
And once those run out of power, you'll have six useless batteries. Keep in mind that phones drain battery power passively and there is a battery power loss over time. That aside, electricity costs will add up where as solar power is free.

Bob808Knight . I get your point, but i'm just looking into something that's gonna provide more juice to recharge items, batteries, .. perhaps something that might even run a item of more substance, ... a energy source that's stores more power, is effective, and won't bankrupt me. I haven't found it yet, but i know it's not these coleman sunforce, goal zero 7.5 watt solar panel, Anker foldable solar panels. Goal Zero has other items that store more JUICE i'm researching, also a company called .. Portable Universal Power .. has similar items. I guess i'm just looking for something more, ..... Or waiting for the technology to improve. I've also been researching rechargeable batteries that hold charges longer, ones that charge to their fullest capacity like the .. Powerex AA 2700 mAh NiMH rechargeables. But i guess i shouldn't wait too long before Obama burns Rome to the ground.

***** I have the Goal Zero (nomad?) 13 with 4 panels, and I haven't found anything yet it won't charge well. It puts out 5v USB as well as 12V at over 1amp. It even runs my little inverter (100w?) in direct sun. I used it recently to charge up the battery in my pickup after my ham radio killed it overnight. In 3 hours, I had enough juice to start it. Just food for thought.
