I would recommend for goalies to only scratch the crease when the ice is dry or near dry. Certain zamboni drivers flood the ice and put too much water on. When the crease is all watery, and you scratch it up, all the wet ice that you just scraped off the surface freezes, making the ice un-even in certain spots, and sometimes makes it weird to skate/slide on. Trust me, i learned the hard way.

I recommend doing this only if you play in a league where they do bring out the zamboni after every period or shovel off the snow. During beer league they don’t do that so your crease gets carved up naturally during the game. No need to do this at the start of a rec game you’re only adding to the scratches that’ll happen for the rest of the game

i do this at rinks that have ice that isnt very slidable without it being scratched up

*In beer league, with the rest of your team launching pucks at the net non stop, you barely have any time to do this.*

I’m 5-8 and 42 years old. I need the extra slide. I never do this. In used to when I was a teenager though.

I usually do this when the ice is super sticky

as a player I thought this was to build up snow to slow down a trickling puck
@spencermcintyre7848 Жыл бұрын
the snow created by it can be used like that, or pushed against the side of the net to slow down wraparounds. Refs don't like it though, and they always give me a dirty look when they take the snow away.

I used to think that goalies are like cats scratching the wall next to the cat tray for I don't know why
@JetScreamer24 Жыл бұрын
I always wondered why. I never scratch it up cause I don't want all the snow in front of me. I keep my crease clear of extra snow so the puck has less of a chance of bouncing when it's shot on the ice.
@thesportsquad4531 Жыл бұрын
that is literally not how it works. You would need a very excessive amount of snow for that to happen. Scratching the crease will not cause that.
@JetScreamer24 Жыл бұрын
@@thesportsquad4531 Either way, I still don't scratch it up.

That's why you use your stick to sweep the snow away anytime it builds up. Some NHL goalies have been known to sweep the excess snow right on the goal line. It won't stop a shot but if you have a squeaker and it's slow gliding towards the line it may stop. 😂😂😂
