Ingredients:
2 slices of king fish
Salt (to taste)
3 tbsp oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 medium red tomatoes, chopped
1 tbsp Goan vinegar
3-4 cups water
Chopped coriander (for garnish)
Steamed rice or crispy bread (for serving)
For the Masala Paste:
2-4 green chilies (according to taste)
4-5 garlic cloves
6 cloves
12-17 peppercorns
2 green cardamom pods
½ inch cinnamon stick
1 tbsp cumin seeds
½ tsp turmeric powder
Water (as needed for grinding)
Instructions:
Marinate the Fish:
Wash the king fish slices and marinate with salt. Set aside.
Prepare the Masala Paste:
In a blender, add green chilies, garlic cloves, cloves, peppercorns, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cumin seeds, and turmeric powder.
Add a little water and grind to a smooth paste.
Fry the Fish:
Heat a pan and lightly fry the marinated king fish slices until they are golden brown. Remove and set aside.
Make the Curry:
In a large pot (urban pot), heat 3 tbsp of oil over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent.
Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and blend with the onions.
Add the prepared masala paste to the pot and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add tamarind pulp and cook for another 2 minutes.
Pour in 3-4 cups of water, depending on your preferred consistency (the curry should be runny).
Bring the mixture to a boil.
Add 1 tbsp of Goan vinegar and stir well.
Gently add the fried king fish slices to the curry and cook for another 5 minutes.
Check the seasoning and adjust salt if needed.
Garnish and Serve:
Garnish with chopped coriander.
Serve hot with steamed rice or crispy bread.
