I have now watched many of your videos. Some of them at least 25 times. I can't thank you enough for trying to provide us this knowledge but I have to say tuning stock ECM's with HP tuners is absolutely ridiculous! If someone is going to make small changes maybe just maybe they might be able to do this. But I have quite a bit of experience tuning many stand alone fuel injection systems and I have had wasting weeks trying to get a stock gen4 6.0 LS with 6l80e to idle and run well enough to get out of my driveway. I have only changed to Delphi 55lb injectors and added new fuel rails and a flex fuel sensor. That's it other than a rocker trunnion upgrade and hardened pushrods the engine is stock and has been gone through top to bottom. I have a unique situation where my vehicle is a Izusu NPR HD Gas truck that came equipped to run on CNG fuel and had was really cheap to fill but hard to find stations until Jan 2023 when the fuel tripled over night due to "the Russia Ukraine war and became really expensive. So after this system damaged the 823 cylinder heads for the second time beyond repair. It literally pounded the valves into the seats until losing compression. The amount of tables you have to play with and the level of complexity is just nuts! I am also about to LS Swap 2 older muscle cars with Gen 4 6.2 LS engines from the junkyard that have been rebuilt with healthy cam swaps and now I don't want to even think of messing with this 2 more times. I will not waste the money on custom built wire harnesses and more credits for HP tuners. Now that Holley terminator x supports the 6l80e I think I should go this route. This way I can actually have the system truly tune off the wideband 02. Not play with stupid tables that wont save correctly and disappear the next time you open the VCM scanner. The editor seems to work fine on any other ECM than my stock one. It must be locked or damaged. I have already rewritten a different one after losing 2 weeks messing around making phone calls going on forums ECT ECT. I can only read the TCM file. The VCM scanner program sucks and is buggy. It disconnects often on its own or freezes up while the vehicle is running and sometimes causes a issue the laptop USB and wont work at all. I have tried many stock tunes both for E85 vehicles and gas vehicles that came with this same engine and trans and they are so far off you would think they are from a 4 cylinder Honda. I can't waste anymore time playing with it. I have to find someone that knows what they are doing with this and tow my truck to them and pay them to tune it. I have tuned a 1000 Hp big block on a FAST XFI system. Way easier. A 500Hp small block 383 on a ACCEL DFI. Way easier. A Mazda Rx7 Turbo rotary on a ELECTROMOTIV TEC 2 And later on A HALTECH 1000 System on E85. All much easier then this. I am about to learn the HOLLEY HP on a small block 383 and will make a decision after on the LS Swaps what to do after seeing how difficult the Holley is but it looks like to be similar to the other previous stand alone systems I have used just with nicer updated features. I have tried my best here and seem to be failing miserably.

I just started watching this series to get up to speed on tuning my LS swap ‘71 C10 (under construction, engine into frame next week). The ECM is an E38 which means I’m in Gen4 territory with a virtual VE table-got that. HP help suggests I get their MPVI2 Pro because I’ve got a 2-channel wideband with analog 0-5v output. I’m getting that your wideband connection is digital, not analog, and reads directly in lambda. Or maybe needs a decimal point conversion. I guess this means I need to set up a conversion from 0-5 to lambda, correct? My data collection table will likely be rpm vs KPa for SD? What units for my MAF curve? I need to get the software and follow along, but need to figure out which setup is right before I pull that trigger. Thanks for the videos, VERY informative despite my questions!

It's good to show us the tuning process, and I'm sure many your subscriber learn how to tune. But these videos are more for those who already understand and know tuning. Now, I am beginning to understand what does tune means. At this point I do not understand what the diagrams indicate (I know 14,7/1 that is main number, but still don't get it). I don't get it, when you change numbers, for example -5, what that means, or where you get that number from, or what this changes does. As i said, I'm beginner and if you have some advice for me, how can i learn tuning, I mean when to add or subtract parameters. I just don't want to learn by rote, I want to understand what does it mean when you change something. Thank you for your attention

I was losing my mind trying to get the histogram to work. I knew the wideband was sending data to my laptop, because it was displaying the proper value in the list of sensors on the left, but the histogram would just remain blank all the time I was logging data. I watched this video like 5 times to figure out what I was missing. Finally, I realized that when you are in Graph Display Layout Editor, you have to click on the graph in the list on the left of that window that you want to make changes to. I was doing everything right, but missing this one click of the mouse, so nothing would work. Perhaps this might help someone else out in the future.

Hoping you can help me with setup. I need to get my VVE tuned and my biggest problem is with setup. I have a 2016 Stingray. I am using an AEM OBD2 wideband set to display lambda, which i have tuned my MAF which is spot on along with my idle and coast down. I understand how the GM VVE works and how it relates to torque. I work as an instrumentation engineer and i deal with flow, temperature, pressure, density and the compensations involved. It's not dissimilar with engine management. I use Bernoulli's equation etc on a daily basis. It has always been the software setup i have a mental block with. What im trying to do is set mt histo to read a lambda error for VVE tuning. I have one setup based off of the factory eq ratio but would like to use a user defined according to my AEM. My question is would it be as simple as my AEM reading divided by commended [36.238]/[68.238]? Also do I have to be in open loop to use it that way? Also when all is said and done is there a way or is it possible to check the MAF and VVE against each other? Thanks
@GoatRopeGarage5 жыл бұрын
Go into the math parameters section and look at the default math for EQ error, it's a bit more than just reading/commanded. You need to be in open loop that way you're not fighting your O2 sensors. Not really a way to treat the MAF versus the VE table as you're either using one or the other or a blended version but you can't really compare unless your disable one scan, then swap.

99% of the time you can use the generic one, I often look for the one that has the least amount of text attached to it, lol! So when I see MAP and then there are hi and low res versions, I am going to pick the one that just says Manifold Air Pressure.

@@GoatRopeGarage haha, that makes sense to me as well as far as what I would pick.
