I've been doing great with reading in Korean but my pronounciations never felt right. I never understand why the words sounded so different than what I was reading. This has helped tremendously!

Well done man. This is the stuff that's really confusing for a learner. You captured all of the sound change stuff in one video. Thank you

Thank you for this. It did feel like a lot to remember from the book but this cleared things up a little. At least now I will stress less about not being able to memorise every rule and will just remember to check with the sound change rules appendix if something feels awkward to say.

All these sound changes is the reason why my pronunciation will always be bad. I don’t remember all the batchim rules so I just pronounce it the way it’s written lol then go back to re learning

When you're Indian and it's easy to pronounce Korean words because of the same phonetics but these rules makes it hard to memorize things.

If you follow the 연음 rules it won't be that hard... Hard is when words like 깻잎 comes out all of a sudden

Well guess what? In Russian:"how you say it,that how you write it". In English you write it one way but say it other way...in russian,how you say the word,thats how you spell it...how you read it,thats how you say it. Thank you for the lesson Billy! Your the best 선생님!

와ㅋ 진짜 대단하십니다 국어 음운 공부했거나 국어국문학 했던 사람 이외에는 한국인도 설명 잘 못하는 부분까지 알고 계시네요ㅋ 이정도면 진짜 웬만한 한국어 전공 외국인보다 훨씬 뛰어난 수준이네요ㅋ 보면서 감탄했습니다!!

Nice common sense tips. I'm thinking of trying paper instead of Anki - but I remember doing this with German (before Anki existed) and well if you're determined you can still get a bloated amount of useless words (IE if you're studying from books). I feel like the beginner to intermediate stage is kind of a no win situation where you don't really have an ideal way to absorb vocabulary. Anyway. Nice video.

I often hear 신라면 (the ramen brand) being pronounced as 신나면, rather than 실라면. What's up with that? I assume it goes for other words too.
@GoBillyKorean
@GoBillyKorean 5 жыл бұрын
It's because "신" is the name of it, so they often pronounce it as such. The same goes for 진라면. However due to sound change rules it's also correct if you pronounce it 실라면 - but this is less common than saying "신" 라면.

Saying "Nice to meet you" for me is more like saying "Nicemeechyu" all one word, and really fast. That's how alot of people say it in South Carolina.

11:30 No, Billy! 😂😂 I can say 'hapnida' without a problem. It's just the Korean can't say or didn't try to. Consonant clusters are commonplace in my native language (though almost never in the beginning of a word), but also many other widely spoken languages.
