I used to drive these slag trains and molten iron torpedo car trains in the UK in the 1970's.

Maybe if they sprayed the inside of the cars with Pam, the slag would slide out a lot easier. It works with fried eggs! LOL

Looks similar to a Treadwell design. Notice the rack and pinion beside the rolling surface. The gear train is likely two parallel gear sets driving a worm that rotates the pinion and bale.

I love how that huge chunk of metal falls off the magnet and video abruptly ends there :D

The music had me thinking I would see Herman Monster at anytime.

Feeding the flames of Hades. But why the abrupt ending? Did the organ develop a cipher as a result of the heat?!

this is not Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Mingo and I am unsure whether the title was referring to that or not

where was this video taken/steel mill? And can you show how the gears work on this slag car, from both sides? Excellent material. Thanks

Mainly the videos of operating slag car were made at Ukrainian factories. Instide of describing the process of the slag car's bale rotation in words I'll give you a link where you can see some pictures - azovmash.com/shlakovozy-domennye and sdelanounas.ru/blogs/6493/ It is so called "section"-planetary gearing (I don't know the right word in English:), not worm. Process was simulated by means of SolidWorks Simulation.
