True Story: Once I was shopping for transformers at ToysRus (rest in piece) when this little girl skipped up with her father and just went- "Look daddy, Go-Bots!" She was so excited and it got all the better when her father answered with- "Yes honey, these are something called Transformers." ....I don't think I've ever had to fight so hard to stifle a laugh in my life~

I've actually found myself more interested in Gobots over the past few months, finding them every so often in vintage stores. Their engineering is really impressive for the time, and a lot of them have alt modes and transformations I don't think I've ever seen in mainline TFs. I'd love to get ahold of more in the future, money and space permitting.

Chaos is basically the American version of the Double Machine Robos, considering Tonka had commissioned Bandai to make these, even though Bandai already had the Double Machine Robos available in Japan. Bandai and Gobots/Machine Robo ended up creating ideas that would be seen on later Takara figures, yet we don't give them credit.
@RetroRobotRadio5 жыл бұрын
There were heroic Guardians with a similar feature of 2 vehicles, but they were smaller toys, and exclusive to Europe and Japan, called Combinators. We only got the Renegades in the US. These Guardians were among the final GoBots released by Bandai, and never even got proper names - One was called "F15 Jet and Transporter", for instance. That's because Tonka was the company that gave the GoBots names, and Tonka never released this toy, only Bandai. www.lulu-berlu.com/robo-machine-combinators-f-15-jet-transporter-a9813-en.html

I'm trying to figure out how this and any of the combiner teams (there were only two, also both the Renegade/Enemy GoBots) would work in GoBot lore, since they were technically cyborgs even before the cartoon. I don't even remember the Dread Launchers. The line was hard to follow near the end because even the commercial count went down near the end.

Issue is Takara's side. While Hasbro bought the Gobot licences from Tonka, Takara didn't buy the Machine Robo stuff, so making those figures is pretty difficult. Most they can do is use the names like the Playskool Gobots line or Armada Leader-1 or repaints.

That Go-Bot was based on an actual experimental aircraft, the Northrop Grumman X-29. It was created from a heavily modified F-5 Tiger with the engine of an F-16, and was supposed to demonstrate the viability of a forward-swept wing configuration. Whilst the wing shape allowed for superb maneuverability at lower speeds, due to their nature, the wings had a tendency to bend out of shape or even tear off on higher speeds, necessitating the use of expensive composite materials for their construction, along with the requirement of canards to reduce the drag. This is why reverse-sweep wings are one of the rarest aircraft wing shapes in real life, since more common configurations like trapezoidal wings, such as those on the F-22 Raptor, provide an excellent balance of maneuverability at all speeds without any of the inherent drawbacks that plague the “backwards”-looking wings. BTW, this Go-Bot, Minus his legs, could make for an amazing 80s style Beast Machines Jetstorm through customization. Not that I would recommend repainting and kitbashing a rare, expensive, and valuable toy like this guy.

I've never heard of this Gobot before, thanks. I'll be taking apart my extra Siege Flywheels to repaint into Chaos now. It's not perfect but it's close enough. If you keep the legs folded out and open up the shin/tank turret pieces while in vehicle mode, it could kinda sorta look like a carrier truck with tank treads and no wheels on the back part. Or should I use Roadtrap as the legs with the jet as Chaos, use Battleslash and the tank as Traitor and a full Flywheels as Re-Volt? I have some more projects to work on now.

Battle slash with theardwheels legs for triator
@grahf42155 жыл бұрын
@@diegodankquixote-wry3242 That's what I said. Only having vehicles to work with, a helicopter is a decent enough replacement for a flying insect with bird legs thing. Whatever the launcher platform is supposed to be looks more tank-like than it does a jeep. Leaving the legs alone and just folding them down into tank position at the ankles looks like the bottom half of Traitor in alternate mode too, especially after you spin it around so that the pelvis is the front. So yes, Battleslash and the tank for Traitor.

This design is real cool until you realize he needs his carrier half to follow him around for him to land. And that things not all terrain. I'm not sure how they handled it in the show, but I can only imagine that you just see hit torsoless legs running after him so the upper half can transform and land right on top of them.
