I like to think morality (love) is the mechanism by which we evolve our souls.

What do you think about this way to root morality in God? 1. God's nature is logical, His thoughts are organized. 2. Logic gives rise to potentials("if, then" scenarios). 3. God brings about actual potentials, based on His logical nature, resulting in an organized world for a purpose. 4. Based on the particular purpose God had in mind, the nature of that world and the creatures in it are made in harmony with that purpose, resulting in good and bad. (The nature of the creatures and their purpose were created at the same time, therefore in harmony with each other.) Why would God create a thing to devolve into chaos? That would mean he had no reason for it. Just discard it.

I like it. You're roughly expressing something similar to the views of Aquinas, who in turn was basically just infusing Aristotle's ethics with Christianity.
