The latter part of this audio made me think of Canada's education system and how children with disabilities attend the same school as able bodied chilsren. This is done to generate sensitivity, empathy and awareness in children but most importantly to promote inclusiveness. When we are socialized to understand we live amongst ppl with varied abilities, our tolerance level is impacted positively. Jamaica should try this education model.

I've listened to all the episodes but this one connect and resonated with me on a different level. I could hear the frustration in the general voice. In my belief its not to disrespect anyone but to express how irritating it is. Everyone wants change but no one is being the change that is needed. Majority of us are just mimicking change to look like they are a forse of good, some are agreeing but not doing and some not doing anything at all. Special needs and mental illness is shun upon in Jamaica and I must say across the Caribbean. Why? Our culture states that a child with these disorders are possessed (a set dem set em suh) (a obeah dem obeah em). We never factor in that these children are just different and were born with special needs. They need a system that caters to children of all kind. Not just the gifted ones or the althelets (trackstar). Government should have funding for children with autism, learning disorders like dyslexia....there are so many children that suffer from dyslexia and we sey " a dunce em dunce or fool fool". And nuh know sey the child wah sey the right word or number but a see 10 different things. I sense your utter disgust and frustration and mi can't help but fi agree wid yuh 100%. Final part of this episode was especially powerful. If anyone read the literature book in high school called Chrysalids the final parts would have brought that extra light on how society really is. Even the image of God, well Jesus, u notice the depiction in the images, Caucasian, hair looking like a shampoo model, hands so perfect looking like he never did a day of work in is life. It says a lot about how we view things n what n who we accept. Anything that they don’t deem “normal” you get the looks, I’ve experienced it n for much of my teenage years I struggled with really loving n accepting myself. Thankfully I pulled away from that mindset but not many are as lucky for lack of a better word n it follows them throw adulthood where any kind of attention from whoever is currency n this conversation can go on n on.

I have a Similar situation. I have 3 kids, the guy meet me with my first child when he was just 2 years old and he was like a daddy to him, take him fishing, giving him things and showing him love, along the line I got 2 kids with him and he still looks out for my first child. Now hes 14 and we're broken up, whenever hes taking groceries to his 2 kids he doesn't take any for my first child and my son is the one who picks up the groceries from him and take it home cause we have to walk a little 5mins from the bus stop to the house and he passed a remarks saying my son is not to eat from the groceries and how the groceries finishing too fast. He has been in his life from hes 2 and now hes 14. 12 years living with him and because we are no longer together he talks like this, he stop taking him fishing which he knows he loves plus he will take his kids out on outings and leave my 14 year old at home. When my kids will come home they'll talk about their experiences and he would just sit there feeling bad knowing that he used to go out with them. What would u say this man is???
