I had wondered why Anya's ID is there at the beginning but realized on watching Keith's response. It's a masterstroke of priming the audience into thinking that this is Anya's fault. Step one you are being primed to see things from Jimmy's POV.

This is one of those games that get stuck to the back of your mind and linger there a while. Amazing game and commentary Keith.

Anya asks Curly "how much longer for this shipment?", Curly answer in days, Anya responds with "8 months" and suddenly deflects to questioning why does medical and the cockpit have safety locks, but not their sleeping quarters. Anya hides the gun "for her safety". Anya asks Curly to do the psych eval with Jimmy. Curly isn't a saint either though, when Curly is confused when ANya tells him she is pregnant she says "Captain. I told you.", which means Curly knew SOMETHING uncomfortable was going on but either kept playing it off or just giving Jimmy a slap on the wrist, since they are old friends and because Jimmy "had trouble back on Earth", whatever the fuck that means. Curly is a good captain and good leader, but seems to be "best friends" to a fault. While Jimmy is just a wreck, a total mess of a dellusional manipulative human being and actually had the GALL to weaponize his SA as a damage to his own friend's job history.

I didn't read it like htat at all. I read the 'I told you' as Curly was asking who could have gotten her pregnant. Curly was oblivious to the abuse as, well... You don't always notice abuse until the victim finds the courage to tell you. Curly had no way of knowing truly.

Interesting bits of lore and speculations that you may be interested in: 1. Curly is somewhat part of the problem. It is implied that Curly knew Jimmy for a long time and that Jimmy had problems back on the planet due to his "tendencies" that Curly was at least aware about. The game says that Anya tried telling Curly about Jimmy's assaults, but Curly made all the wrong decisions. His philosophy was basically to preserve general peace among the crew, while ignoring the individual problems. It actually is perfectly captured in the scene when Anya talks with Curly about the dead pixel on the lobby screen. But I digress. Anya suffered(not just one time), but Curly's pacifism made him think he could negotiate their way out. 2. Anya in Jimmy's eyes. It is clearly depicted that Jimmy frequently assaults her physically but also verbally, diminishing her as a nurse. I honestly think it is because of how low he basically views Anya, to the point that in the "room with ID's" scene there is not a single card with her photo, one of many signs that suggest that Jimmy doesn't even somewhat see Anya as a person, but a failure, something he can control and break when he is bored. He questions her capabilities despite the fact that she managed to keep a completely skinless person ALIVE with what limited supplies she had. So yeah, Jimmy is a piece of shit 3. Swansea probably wasn't as "bad" of a character. What I mean is he's depicted as genuinely rude to Daisuke, but when we realise most of the story is told through Jimmy's point of view, I think it is safe to assume that Jimmy sees Swansea as someone who also has to put up with a completely incompetent person (in this case Daisuke). That is why Jimmy probably imagines that Swansea is justified and should bully Daisuke , and therefore is actually doing that. But upon reading some of the books that are left in the room with cryopods , we see that these books are actually manuals, where Swansea leaves notes about for example what not to read due to the info being too relevant nowadays. This leads me to think that he actually cares about his intern and is trying to teach him something. This is not a concrete fact but rather an observation (and an assumption) of mine. 4. The Cryopod Problem. I believe Swansea and Anya were together on keeping the technical room closed from Jimmy. Evident from the fact that Swansea and Anya had a conversation (perhaps not one) out of Jimmy's awareness, Swansea was probably aware of what kind of person Jimmy actually was. This can be tracked by subtle things Swansea says while talking to Jimmy. It seems Anya and Swansea actually planned to keep the cryopod for Daisuke, this would explain the sudden disinterest of the salvation by Swansea right after Daisuke's death, plus the fact that Daisuke had somewhat of a financial stability and a future because of his parents 5. Corporate shit. Pony Express existed in the US in real world. It was a company interested in hiring young people that no one would miss to deliver mail on horses in a very risky manner. But it shut down after a year or so, when a faster method of delivering messages was invented. This actually ties perfectly to mouthwashing, since Pony express cut off every employee the second the more efficient and profitable way was found. Final words: I believe the core part of this game is choices, and how a crime of an assaulter was enabled not by a single wrong choice, but by a consecutive thread of them. Before the crash, only Curly was aware of Anya's situation yet he could (as he said) do LITERALLY ANYTHING to prevent the consequences. Being the captain on a ship where the simplest of things require a device only a captain possesses, he could at least allow Anya to sleep in the medical, doors of which lock unlike crew's quarters. He could also with the help of Swansea force Jimmy into a cryopod until the landing. But he didn't do anything, perhaps because of the fact Jimmy was practically his friend. But the (not a single) act of assaulting Anya led to her getting pregnant, and that led to Jimmy crashing the ship yada yada. Anyway, I hope this yapping of mine may help clear some things out or at least entertain someone. Thank you for your amazing playthrough, Keith.

1:37:35 - as someone that suffers from chronic pain, 500mg of paracetamol is fucking weak for pain relief. That’s standard over the counter strength you can buy without a prescription and standard dosage is two tablets up to four times a day and is something you take for something mild like a headache. It’s going to do jack squat for his pain relief; take the edge off sure, but given how much pain he’s probably in, he’ll probably still be in agony even if you gave him a full day’s dosage in one go.

15:13 - it could be an automatic safety feature; perhaps it wasn’t applied manually, but instead got sprayed out like with sprinklers for fire suppression. And because it hardened (presumably it’d be a sci-fi chemical compound that sets harder than concrete or the like) the crew can’t remove it without industrial tools.

Pacing is a bit up and down, but always wanna keep pushing forward to see how deep and dark the rabbit hole is. The thumbnail is also amazing. Not sure who did it, but is fantastic.

awesome job Keith, you are the third person I tried watching this game from, but you are the only person I managed to stick through the whole thing, something about the way you take i the details, while being extremely uncomfortable, and yet manage to be funny, it also helps that your voice is rather soothing, event through out this type of game, you could have easily be screaming your lungs out at every little minor twit, but you didn't . Don't know if that just says something about where my standards, but regardless, it doesn't take away from a great video with great commentary, specially for such touchy subject matter. happy Halloween, rest well, rant over.

The whole game is rife with small details you're likely to miss on a first playthrough. SPOILERS; It starts with you sitting in the left pilot's seat, Jimmy's seat from the interview, then getting up and 'running away' after you plot the ship crash. As the alarms blare Jimmy is walled in by the Pollo, a metaphor for the ship, the company and the baby with Anya, hence the crying baby sounds. When seen from Curley's perspective Jimmy is curled up just outside the cockpit, having run away only metaphorically from his responsibilities & punishment. Every time Jimmy & Anya talk Jimmy treats her specifically like shit and she's miserable. Anya doesn't hesitate or squirm when changing out Curley's bloody full body bandages, yet for 'some reason' feels violently ill as he gags and chokes in pain & discomfort when something is forcefully shoved down his throat (the pills). Jimmy is also really quick to jury rig the food mixer to spit out a cocktail that'll knock someone out; "won't remember a thing when they wake up" was it? Then there's Anya's last line saying that "Jimmy was right" and she "should have done it earlier" before her demise, implying old Jimbo may have told Anya to end herself.

Anyway what I wanted to say is that I absolutely loved your God of War lets play and so I wanted to ask whether you've ever considered playing the sequel. It's heavily implied that Anya was sexually assaulted by Jimmy, with her asking why there aren't any locks in the sleeping quarters and Jimmy's reaction to her pregnancy.

Jimmy sexually assaulted Anya, and Curly knew but didn’t punish him for it. When Curly realized that Jimmy crashed the ship, he rushed into the cockpit to try and stop it but the explosion burned all of his skin off.
