Thank you for bringing this to us. I am a swede but this is the first time I heard Jussi singing this song. I am proud of being swedish and his song goes right to my heart. It makes me remember my childhood, my mom's and my grandmoms' storys about their life in the beatiful nature taking care of the lifestock in cottages out in the woodland, up north where my relatives lived. I rember as a child I really admired Jussi Björling for passionate singing other famous kind of anthem songs he sang. Most of his singing gives me goose bumps, and I never get tired of listening to them. Thanks again for your humble presntation of our national treasure (klenod in swedish).

A fäbod is a summer farm in the forest or up towards the mountains where they would move the livestock during the summer for better grazing. Usually manned by younger people, who often used trumpets made from birch bark to communicate with the home farm or other summer farms in the vicinity. So "shack girl's nap" is better translated to "herdsmaiden's trumpet" in this case ("lur" means both "nap" and "trumpet").

This could be a contender for a national anthem if we ever should decide that our current de facto (not de jure) one didn't cut it for some reason. The main thing that would speak against it, however, is that veeeeery few people would actually be able to sing it even close to how Jussi did. :)

Sweden's national anthem is "Du gamla, du fria" ("Thou old one, thou free one") and actually never mentions Sweden. Just says "I want to live, I want to die in the North", -- Norden, which refers to Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland
