What makes it funny is while reading the bible, youre gonna come with that conclusion
@glitchwolf13844 жыл бұрын
Its funny because according to christian theology, their very timeline of events supports this exact thing. Yahweh is the imperfect creator of the universe, able to feel anger, greed, all the bad stuff too. So when he created the angels, he promised they would be equals. Shortly after he made himself a golden throne and forced the angels into submission, where even the slightest mistake sent them careening through the void. Then, god made humans, and offered them *forgiveness*, and when certain angels asked for forgiveness to be offerred to angels as well, they were banished too. So Lucifer (the Devil is the bastardized term for the 'unholy trinity', which... is also a stupid term, considering of them, only Lucifer and beezelbub are unholy, and Satan is a construct created by god to punish the fallen angels and all unforgiven sinners) is essentially the antihero willing to stand up to an unstoppable force of evil, fully knowing they will be crushed and defeated time and time again.

According to the Book of Job, yeah, God lets him. The Hebrew Satan is actually a divine prosecutor who brings charges against sinners, basically God's attack dog. So they're not opposing forces, they're on the same side. Although technically, Satan murders way fewer people in the Bible than Yahweh does.

+Arsjaad Poese That sometimes happens, when all feelings of people are revealed as a lie. Basically years of life wasted. ;-) The god believe is a function of the right brain hemisphere (like music, poetry and art enjoyment) That is why split brain patients can be theists and atheists at the very same time: /watch?v=PFJPtVRlI64 (youtube clip in which it is explained) And why some forms of dementia or Alzheimer can kick the god believes off. It is just another hedonistic pleasure you can own when it is your taste or dismiss if it is not. Terms like "supernatural", "omnipotence" etc. are invented to sound amazing. Big Buzzwords Like a magicians show with a lot of spooky sounding "magic spells". Instinct driven peole are of course offended and insulted, when it is revealed that their feelings are just their feelings. In the end Pointless and meaningless to other people, who are not interested in them and to reality anyway and at the same level as any personal enjoyment like playing a sportsgame, watching a favorite tv show or reading a book, which satisfies your personal taste the best. The big evil is actually not that people believe in many things like god's or angels and other nonsense, the big evil is that they believe their personal satisfications are the center of the universe. -> Extremists. And they start to insult other peoples enjoyments as "sins" without realizing their "god-sin" is at the exact same level, sometimes even below, because it can hurt people a lot - especially innocent children. Religion is like a knife, you can use it to cut bread to feed the poor or to murder.

I also have openly gay friend who is Christian and goes to church and as far as I know the whole congregation accepts him and anyone who wishes to worship in their church, so not all Christians are extremist douche bags.

Nicole Ram-sey "They're in God's image" should be changed to "we". The violence present in the Old Testament, and really the only way to explain it, is that if God is real, so is the fact that we ultimately all deserve to go to Hell for making the biggest screw up of all time. Really, there's a lot of evil human behavior in the Bible before before Jesus. So, here's a question: God did command many wicked people to be murdered, but how is that different from our our concept of justice? Example: Man commits a murder in cold blood, man gets caught and put on trial, man gets the death penalty; we ourselves put wicked people to death,yet when people look at God, they think he's ultimately paradoxical. Pure Love and Furious Wrath can't co-exist, right? Yet, my parents love me very much, but I do bring their righteous wrath down on me from time to time.

You see, the moment God was called "allmighty", he in fact became powerless.
@leojaksic837210 жыл бұрын
Nice metaphor, but you missed my point. You see, a perfect almighty, allseeing, allknowing, timeless and benevolent deity is easily disprooved by common logic. Let's say God exists and is omnipotent. People attribute this to the fact that he created the universe in seven days, and that he purged the world with a giant deluge. At first glance, that is something trully divine and can only be seen as omnipotence, put let's consider this: why couldn't God have created the world in only one day? If he is truly omnipotent, and everything happened by His will in an instant, there are not supposed to be any steps in the process, there would only be a result. Also, let us for this argument only assume that the story of Noah's arc is true and accurate, and that there were 40 days and nights of nothing but rain and floods, and that afterwards Earth got repopulated by only 2 of each kind of animal. Let's assume this all happened. The real question is this: If God did all this to purge the world of evil, why did He have to do it by flooding the world? If He wanted to destroy all evil humans, then it could've been done much easier by other means: a plague, rapid thunderstrikes, forced impotence, cancer, you name it. There'd be much less complications, can easily be undone from His perspective, and would give proper results without the need to completely devastate the land and put all other local wildlife in danger. As such, a mere human like me and you came up with a better sollution for the issue than an allknowing God, so if he is omnipotent, he cannot be omniscient. Now let's see an easier example: if God is omniscient, he knows absolutely everything that is, was and ever will be. That means he is aware of evil thoughts as well, and knows what lust, pride and anger feel like, and he has displayed them according to the Bible, which means he is not perfectly benevolent. But more importantly, if he knows all things beforehand, he also knows he is powerless to stop it. Or, if he does stop it, it means he got the future wrong, so he did not know everything. Finally, if he is perfectly benevolent, he knew he had to give mankind free will and the ability to make a choice, but he must also know to respect all that mankind does and love them irregardlessly. That means he loves mankind when they sin, kill, go to war and curse his name. A perfectly benevolent being would turn the other cheek no matter what, but in doing so, he becomes powerless to interveine with mankind, so he's not omnipotent. Point being, one idealistic property cancells out the other. In short, if someone claims his God is perfectly benevolent, omniscient, all-present, allpowerful and just perfect in all aspects, they are lying to themselves as their God cannot fulfill these requirements. He is, as such, powerless. But to answer your question, I do have a thesis about the infinity concept in God's aspects. As I said before, if God trully is omnipotent, he would've created the Earth in the blink of an eye, not seven days. He wouldn't need 40 days to inscribe two tablets with His commandments. He wouldn't need three days to ressurect His son. If he's capable of something like that, then He's awesome, but far from perfect. Everything that has a finite start has a finite end. God is no exception. See, God is not allknowing nor allmighty, he's just really, really powerful, and only knows really, really much. A true believer that claims their God is allmighty, allknowing and so on are actually lying to themselves, and loose all credibility because they want to be the best there is. If you already need to have a supreme being in your religion, it'd be more accurate to say He is "beyond powerful, and beyond wise", because those terms are actually finite in value.

***** But I do not understand the point you are trying to make. You cannot be "more" or "less" omnipotent, no matter how generous you are with your power. But giving "a way " for a person to still have free will while he maintains omnipotence is still impossible. He can either give free will and not be omnipotent (because then he cannot control our decisions), or not give free will and maintain absolute control over the universe.
@Sidneytheweirdo959 жыл бұрын
so after looking at how I commented on this comment after the things I have been through I felt like I have been wrong. to those who believe in God he is almighty. if your heart, your mind, or your spirit is not open God will not make sense. maybe life makes sense to you through science and explanation, but there will be questions about life that not even the believers of God will even understand or know. I believe people who follow science, or people who are agnostic or athiest are truth seekers. No one should be telling anyone that they are "wrong" or that they are living wrong or that they are sinful and going to die in a lake full of fire. the truth is that people don't understand. and when people don't understand they try to seek the truth, and whether it be you may be a person who has grown up in church all of your childhood and it doesnt make sense to you anymore, or whether you may be a person who has tried to seek God on your own and it wasn't right thing for you, whether you never believed in a God at all but only in the things proven by evidence and practicallity; you are trying to understand the world, and the meaning of it, and your place in it. finding your place in the world and knowing the truth does not come from listening to someone else interpret in their words a peice of scripture on a sunday, and it does not mean the scientific reaction of some two chemicals to prove how the world works. the truth and the real truth is the one you find while seeking and searching on your own, and inbetween that is God and at the end is God. God is not a person, God is a feeling that is felt with in us, and the Spirit that controls it all that knows all. You might not agree with me, but this is how we seek the truth. and this is what makes God almighty. you may think "God is a biggot" "God doesn't make any sense." my friend, Nothing on this world makes sense. science and equations can prove how the world works, but what about behind that? and if God is there for pain, isn't God also there for Joy? and you say doctors and anybody human is the one responsible for curing patients of illnesses, but what is behind a doctor? Faith. Faith that they have knowledge to help someone who is ill, and medicine that was put on this Earth to cure people, and knowledge again of how to make things work. and what is behind all of these things of good and peace? God. I probably don't make sense to you, but seek the truth. not to see if God is real but to realize something within yourself.... we are all like little ants on this world with our own lives in a blip of existence trying to find out why we are alive and what this place is for. we have all experienced different things to cause what we believe. but hope, faith, and love are all universal things.

_The AI Paradox_... An Artificial Intelligent (AI) robot will never understand about its human creator, yet it is *_absolutely by evidence_* that, it was created by a human. Why? because its intelligent is _artificial_. ..._or_ ("assume") The AI robot, eventually become smart enough and is able *to recognise* its creator. As for *God*, *He* is also the *Creator* of the _Laws of Nature_, so that _rules_ does not applied to *Him*. ...but for an atheists, they have a problem to grasp the above principle and *_always_* keep asking " Who/what created God ? As it is there's variables that influence the idea that there is a God. within these variables are the reasons bad logic which mistakenly assumes that an intelligence that questions its existence or assumes the trail of its creation. has qualities that makes it unique do the concept that no other creature in existence could have the luxury the single most significant attention in the distinct advantages with humans compared to any other creatures in the universe, with group like mentality this mentality is obvious. here lies the problem, the fallacy of the ego, the fact is that we are very close in intelligence and build to other creatures such as primates with over 90% the same DNA. The fact people's ego isn't taken into consideration when making a spectrum of intelligence and free will to non-intelligence with no free will scale. finally dealing with this topic, one of the biggest fallacies is the idea that we are different is that a possible artificial intelligence advancements. the reasons that would make us different from an artificial intelligence do not exist other than the lack of Technology

I've met pagans, Christians, liberal Jews, New Agers, and atheists at my local UU church. Sometimes, their sermons do have too much God talk for my taste, though, to be honest. However, that depends on the minister. Some are theists. Some are more skeptical. One minister openly admitted agnosticism during one sermon. He said he didn't know if there was a heaven or a God and encouraged people to do good during this life on Earth. Another one is a theist who loves to talk about God during all his sermons. I tend to not go to his sermons :P

Arch Angel What a ridiculous remark. The problem with that is that most people have already _been_ brainwashed into believing this tripe, and so very few people are likely to want their children seeing this. His wish, however, is to ensure that the next generation _isn't_ brainwashed. So, asserting that talking about this in the workplace would get him fired -- which isn't a guarantee, although talking about religion is often frowned upon in workplaces -- is entirely irrelevant to the point he made, while simultaneously demonstrating the necessity for exactly that which he described: showing this video, and videos like it from DM2525, would be very beneficial to most children. If I were the assuming type, I'd assume you were a theist.

You don't need a supernatural form, all you need is a quantuum physics form! "How can a timeless being make a decision when every decision requires at least two temporal states?" This can only be explained with modern science. We know from string theory that there are more than just the 3 dimensions that we can see. There are 10, and another for time. Other theories even say that time is a dimension of space. In any of these, a being who is able to precieve all of the dimensions could in theory control time as if it were a physical object, putting it on and taking it off, doing anything at any time or all times. "How can a spaceless being be distinguishable from other entities without distance to separate them?" Umm.... because he is spaceless.If you do not take up physical space, you do not need to be seperated. You can look at the answer to the first question to help you understandhow a being who lives in many dimensions could live outside of space (the same as living outside of time) "How can a spaceless being retain the countless gigabytes of information that it would require to know everything?" For an eternal being, this is beyond an easy thing to do. If you want a truly tough question, ask this: How would a being who only knows eternal things be able to create finite things? We really are the anomaly, not God.

@AwesomeDwarves10 жыл бұрын
ItsFluxty What? The point is that saying that "god is super natural" is not an excuse for every paradox that he creates which are entirely illogical. The point was not that god is super natural and therefore is allowed to defy all universal laws.

AWESOMEDWARVES Fror FireBasher You can send a rover to the moon, or even a man, and collect soil from the moon and analyze what it is made out of. But I get your point. Anything that can't be proven false can be said to be true by using the super natural excuse. And that is correct. You are saying it is not an excuse because it is irrational, but really, you cannot disprove it, so it can be possible due to the small amount of uncertainty. And then faith comes in. Despite the odds, you have faith in that small sliver of chance, that in the end, makes pretty much anything possible.

@terribletallrus65209 жыл бұрын
+Axel Solis The explanation for this, according to Christianity and some other monotheistic religions, is that, besides being transcendental (beyond the universe and thus space & time - to create the universe, God needs to be above it), God is also immanent, that is, existing within the world. It is this immanent aspect of God that is able to interact with the world. :) (Not religious but study a bit about it under Philosophy)
The supernatural: Explains nothing, produces nothing, is nothing. Politicians are supernatural beings.

If god is omniscient then why does he have to test our "faith"? If god is omnipotent and omnibelevolent' why is does evil exist? If god is omnipresent then where is he? If god is omniscient then freewill doesn't exist (it didn't anyway' but religion thinks so) life has a point because of what? afterlife? What's the point of afterlife? If god is perfect why did he make so many mistakes?
@Karim-kq1em6 жыл бұрын
MAC and ME he also seems to have a tendency to fake evidence against his own book
@callefolin4 жыл бұрын
1. He doesn't need to test our faith, we however are not omniscient and testing of faith can transform us. It is for our benefit, not his.. 2. Because we chose to continue evil and have given ourselves a fallen nature due to us having free will. God doesn't want mindless servants. Also let's say you suffer terribly, let's say you suffer from living in a war zone for 10 years without fleeing and constantly being abused and treated horribly. 10 years is nothing compared to eternity neither is 100 or 1000. 3. Why would knowledge of a choice negate the free will of said choice? If I know that you will choose to eat meatballs today that doesn't mean that you suddenly didn't choose to eat meatballs, it just means I had knowledge of it. 4. The afterlife will be humans restored to our original true self rather than the twisted self we have become through sin. 5. God has not made any misstakes, humans have and our limited understanding of the full picture makes us unable to truly know how every little little thing will happen and how it will affect things around it. A lot of things is also up to God valuing our ability to choose for ourselves as well. We're not his puppets, we're living, breathing and sentient children of God and we can make our own choices. If the choices are good or not is a completely different question however.

It wasn't like the New Testament became translated into say, Latin from Greek and then into occitan from Latin and then into French from Occitan and then into Norman french until it finally got translated into english. Now I just prattled off a bunch of languages but my point still stands. When the New and Old testament have been translated the translators have always worked from a handful of texts written in the original Koine Greek, Latin or Hebrew. The translations have not been one long game of telephone.

Sad thing is, I sometimes find myself thinking along similar lines. Perhaps I ought to be the god of pastries. If I could make pastries. No, Jahweh stays god of pastries, and I can be god of omelettes and microwaveable mac and cheese.

well, human memory doesn't really work like a computer - our memories are fragmented: we have active and passive memories

Here's my question. I've read the bible (not front to back, but I understand it) and I've come from a christian background. If God wanted us to serve him wouldn't it have been much easier to just create us in heaven with him and serve him like the angels do? There wouldn't need to be a need for us to be human beings.

....That's actually a good point. Why doesn't he?

Dude there's no place in the bible that says god wants us to serve him... U read nothing and have understood nothing.

Doing the will of God and following laws is serving the Lord. How do you not understand that? “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15)

Свилен Бранимиров Hey Mr. Bullshit, ever read Deuteronomy 10 12-13? Allow me to save your time searching it. And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to *serve* the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

I get that this is a 6 year old comment. The answer is actually quite simple. God did not create humans to serve him, if he wanted to do that then he would make puppets. We are instead to be heirs to the kingdom of God, not as servants but as children. We can't possibly know all different outcomes of things but think about it. We humans chose to fall into sin and God has offered us a way to be sanctified but we must accept it. Now the following theology I'm about to go into is Eastern Orthodox theology which differs a lot from Catholic and protestant theology. Heaven and Hell in Orthodox theology are not two separate locations rather it is the same place but percieved differently. If you have rejected God and chosen to live in sin Paradise will be painful as you will truly realize the weight of your sins, you will feel intense shame etc. This isn't something God can just remove without also removing our free will. However through choosing to turn ourselves towards God we can avoid this as we become deified (more and more similar to how a human would've been before the fall) through the process of theosis. It leads to true repentence as our sins are already forgiven and we become "healed" from sin (as we view it more like a disease rather than a crime). Now it should be noted, we are commanded to serve God but that isn't because God needs it, rather it's good for us. It helps humble us, strenghten us, avoid sin etc. God doesn't want mindless servants.

Just talked to guy who is a Jehova witness here at work, and after a brief clear question from ideas I got from this video, he just looked at me confused and said "huh?" Very funny. Love the videos. Not an atheist myself as I believe in something beyond our knowledge existing shaping our universe (perhaps dark matter) but these videos are great for my mind to soak in. I live to question everything and these videos help me come up with questions I wouldn't otherwise know how to ask.

An omniscient, omnipotent & infinite deity has no devil & no need for a son. An all-knowing deity knows everything there is to know about us, including why we think, act, believe & feel as we do; & knowing that he created the power of Choice (free will) & the potential for lifeforms to be in conflict with themselves, their environment & eachother when he thought the universe into existence, doesn't get mad at us, since we're merely expressing the rich complexity of thought that we, as the dominant sapient species to evolve on Earth, have as our evolutionary birthright. Evolution being the process that was invented at the Creation to ensure that there would always be genetic & behavioral & cognitive diversity, because the universe is a dynamic place full of change, & the Earth is a dynamic world with tectonic & environmental cycles; & life will prevail, because of evolution. That is the only God that makes sense in the known universe. Noninterventionist (no miracles), nonjudgemental (lifeforms obeying innate natures conceived by God cannot be punished for obeying their innate natures), nonpreferential (no Chosen People); & nondemanding (no command to be glorified or worshipped.)

While I agree with the bulk of this video, I do think that a God "beyond space and time" is possible. In fact, that's a requirement. Think of it like this: In a multiverse all possible outcomes exist. What we actually experience is just one strand along that path of outcomes. Our free will determines which path we will follow ("collapses" the quantum probability waveform), but a godlike being could "control" the otherwise random events (as seen from our perspective). While our perspective is this straight line of time (from A to B), such a superbeing would see it as a zigzag along a sheet of paper (or through a cube, if you prefer). Point A is at the center of the cube and point B lies on the outside edge, along with all possible point B's. Such a being would see this entire multiverse at once. Reading a book like Flatland (which any Sagan fan should know of if not have read personally) would help to comprehend this theory. IMO if you have a multiverse of infinite probabilities then all it takes is for one being to evolve the ability to transcend the bounds of time (the 4th dimension) and "look at things from above". So if such a thing *is* possible it has by definition already happened. The end result of a universe is a god, and such a being could chose which reality we experience. (Though I'm not really sure if that actually "changes" anything, to be honest. I kinda think all realities exist regardless.) But would such a thing be benevolent? Who knows? And is Yahweh benevolent? Well... let's just say I judge people by their ACTIONS not words. Yahweh spends an awful lot of WORDS telling us how good he is but I just don't see it. And, absolutely, the Bible is a convoluted mess. The "God" in it NEVER acts like a perfect omnipotent being. He makes mistakes, changes his mind, and fails at tasks ALL the time. The time he set out to kill Moses is an example of all three. /my 2 cents

Why does Aphrodite have Eris's golden Apple? Anyway, whenever I point out that things don't make sense, I always get 1 of 3 answers: I don't know but that doesn't mean it isn't true, it's not supposed to make sense, or it actually does make sense in a way none of us can understand because we aren't god (which just sounds like a cop-out answer to me).
@Elfos6410 жыл бұрын
Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure the golden apple is the trademark of Eris, the Greek goddess of Discord and Chaos.

The golden apple is a recurring symbol in Greek mythology, used in connection with a number of gods. I believe Elfos64 is thinking of the Iliad and the judgement of Paris, while Darkling refers to Hippomenes and Atalanta. The details of each of these myths can be found online, if anyone actually cares.
