No need to turn on fsr in the steam deck overlay if the game has built in fsr. It will just cause conflict between each other.

Anisotropic filtering has virtually no performance cost. Texture quality can be set to original without issues.

Frame gen and fsr 3.1 has really allowed higher textures and at least a solid 40 fps maybe 45 to 70 I cap at 45 and also undervolted mine

I wouldn’t be running everything SDHQ has given here either tbh; FSR1 on top of FSR2? That’s just a worse image overall. Get CryoUtilities, use the recommended settings and then change the VRAM size in the UEFI of the Deck. That’ll give some headroom.

Anisotropic Filtering is one of the less demanding graphic options ever made (on 99.99% of games) and there's no logical reason to ever set it on lower than MAX on any PC ever created. Just my two cents.

I don’t understand why SDHQ constantly recommends reducing the TDP limit, even for people who aren’t necessarily worried about battery life. For optimization, people typically look to get the best *performance* possible, so what’s the purpose of suggesting everyone decrease TDP (aside from saving battery) for such demanding games? You’ve done the same for Elden Ring, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order (except you recommend a higher TDP for this one than GoW and Elden Ring for some reason), and *even* Hogwarts Legacy! These are all games that *need* as much wattage from the steam deck as possible, so again I ask, what is the purpose of consistently recommending to lower TDP? I’d understand if you explicitly mentioned to do so only if a user’s main concern is battery life, but to suggest it plainly to everybody, makes it incredibly confusing for people trying to optimize their games. Not to mention the suggested graphic settings working for starting areas but almost never later areas, making it seem as though whoever is recommending these “optimized” settings has not actually played through the duration to the game they’re recommending settings for. The Steam Deck community very much appreciates the work you do, as you make this information incredibly easily accessible, yet the information itself needs to be improved. For example, I just applied your hogwarts legacy, recommended settings, and although they work decently at the very starting areas of the game, I’m now getting frame drops *below* 20 in Hogsmeade, as well as other locations. Again, we REALLY appreciate having such easy access to steam deck graphic settings, but the settings themselves must be improved. Apologies for the long comment, I know there are myriad others who’ve expressed the same concern.

Hi there! Sorry for the late reply. There are a couple reasons we recommend setting a TDP limit, but you have a point that we should have a build for demanding games that don't have a TDP limit or set it much higher. The biggest reason we recommend it is to cap battery life as that is a component of optimization. Everyone looks for something different in their games, whether its stability, battery life, performance, or visual fidelity. We try to find a balance for it all for the most enjoyable experience, and while we can't balance it all, we have different builds that we create to prioritize certain aspects. As this is a portable device, saving battery life to some degree is a high priority for us, so TDP limits go right into that. There are also some games that drain a bit extra battery that doesn't need to, like Hades, so a TDP limit can save without hurting performance. There are also circumstances where some games CAN hit higher framerates without a cap, but it is unstable and will drop down. If we can use a TDP limit to save battery and hit the highest stable framerate, we will prioritize that. Since we provide multiple different builds, you have a great point that we should have a no limit build for those interested. It is something we have slacked on and will correct it! Hogwarts Legacy needs to be worked on. The game itself isn't great on the Steam Deck the way it is and suffers from performance issues to some degree. I agree that this is one that we need to dive deeper into. As far as starting area vs later areas go, we have First Looks vs Full Reviews. First Looks are small reviews that only look at the first hour or so of the game and offer initial impressions, while full reviews cover the entire game. We do this to give an idea of how the game will run, but note that this is very subject to change. I believe we need to do a better job differentiating on our videos, but this is noted clearly on our website. In Hogwarts Legacy's case, it is a first look, not a full review. Overall, thank you for taking the time to write to us! We will include no limit builds when necessary, as well as making sure to differentiate our First Looks and Full Reviews in video format. TDP limiting is a part of optimizing though as we work to find a balance and stabilize the game without it looking and feeling unplayable.

Definitely need to optimize. Hand held PC's even monsters like ROG Ally z1 extreme and Lenovo Legion need to optimize settings for games. Even games they can run smooth at 120fps with great graphics, you still want to optimize to improve batter life. I am new to ROG Ally and wife to steam deck. I am a life long Console gamer, where we don't have to think of these things but just put everything to max. But i optimized my wife's God of war on steam and her game doesn't crash anymore. Give it a try. Remember this game was made for PS4. Gotta tweak it to to get it to play well on a handheld device.
